Burger Shop is one of my recent purchases from Zylom Games, (www.zylom.com). Zylom is one of a few websites that offer this sort of game along with Gamehouse, Anawar Games and Popcap Games. You can download a trial version from the site and in most cases you get an hour to try the game and see if you like it.
As the name suggests, Burger Shop is set in a Burger Shop. You receive a mysterious package in the post with instructions on how to build "The Burger-tron" which you do thus beginning the game. The actual game is very simple; you need to use the ingredients that come out of Burger-tron to fulfil your customer's orders. This is simply a case of clicking on the right combination of ingredients and then right-clicking to deliver the finished order. The tricky bit is that as time goes on and you progress through the levels the customers get less patient and there are more and more types of food, drinks and sides to contend with!
Zylom charge £19.99 for all their games which can be way too much as some of them are so quick and easy and to complete but Burger Shop is worth it in my opinion. There are 4 game modes, trophies to earn and a hall of fame too which provide plenty of incentives for repeat play.
The 4 game modes are:
> Story Mode
Basically, Story Mode is what I described above. There is a storyline that gets revealed to you as you play through the levels. Each Level is a day at a certain restaurant such as "The Diner" or "The Beach Hut". Each Diner has 10 levels after which you will progress to the next restaurant. Before each level you get to choose a new item for your restaurant like cookies, (they make your customers more patient), or even a robot to help you fulfil your orders. If you score a Perfect level you will get a star on your map and I have found that I can get mostly stars except for the last two restaurants.
> Challenge Mode
In challenge mode you have several restaurants to choose from, (they are restaurants you work through in the Story Mode), and you get a constant stream of customers to serve in order to earn enough money to qualify as Bronze, Silver or Gold. This is probably my favourite mode as you can play a restaurant quite quickly and it gets quite hectic too which I enjoy. The restaurants become available as you complete each on in Story Mode. I have managed to get gold on all of these levels.
> Relax Mode
Once again you can choose from the restaurants you have unlocked in the story mode. Relax Mode is a test of endurance where you just keep on playing; your customers will never get angry and leave no matter how long you take to serve them. To get a Gold rating on the first restaurant I had to play for nearly 27 minutes and I have played this game so much I am really fast. This is my least favourite mode as it seems a little pointless and I get frustrated with it. This is the only mode I have not completed.
> Expert Story
Once you have completed the story you unlock this mode which is basically the story mode again but more difficult! There is a slight, humorous change to the "plot" as well but it is very slight. I can get a star on about half of these levels.
As previously mentioned I like this game a lot and I enjoy playing it and I don't even mind all the repeat play to try and get all the trophies. Some of them don't seem that obtainable, (such as completing the Expert Story with all stars), which is a little disappointing as I like to be able to complete games. I don't mind a challenge but I really don't see how it can be done by a human!
I would recommend this game to pretty much anyone; I think all ages will be able to enjoy this game and although it seems a little expensive you should be able to get plenty of play of it.
Thanks for reading.
Summary: A great game to while away the hours
