Burger Shop (PC)
Advantages: Addicitve time management game!
I bought Burger Shop on the £2.30 daily deal as part of my Big Fish games membership about six months ago. I am a big fan of time management games so after playing through an hour's free trial I decided to buy it.
The game begins when you find blueprints for a burger making machine - The Bugertron- which you use to open your own burger shop. The machine spits out the components needed to put together a burger order - Burger, bun, cups, fries, onion rings, soft drinks, ice creams etc and you need to use these items to complete the orders of the customers who come into the shop. The game has 4 main levels. The game play is all controlled with the mouse. You click components to assemble the burgers, or drag and drop cups under the machines.
Story (& Expert mode)
The main mode of the game consists of 80 separate levels across 8 different restaurants. Each level consists of various different customers with various degrees of patience and preferences for orders. These include cowboys and girls, aliens, mom and child, and my least favourite the schoolgirls who always order 3 of everything. When you start the game you only have basic ingredients for burgers, but as you complete each level you get the option to add different upgrades including soft drinks machines, ice cream, side orders and power-ups like extra money and patience. The levels get progressively longer and more difficult as you go through. The Expert mode is the same as Story mode but a lot harder - I have only managed to get expert score on one level so far.
Played in 1 minute rounds, Challenge mode is the same general game as Story mode but the customers get less patient as the rounds progress. The aim of the game is to make as much money as you can - there are targets for bronze, silver and gold medals - before you lose a customer which ends the game. There are 8 levels of Challenge mode, one for each restaurant. I really like challenge mode and it is great to play when you don't have a lot of time, especially the later levels which I can only get through about six rounds before I lose a customer!
Relax mode is just one long leave of Burger Shop, but the customers never get impatient and leave. I find this level very samey and tend to get bored and quit quite quickly. I think without the pressure of having to serve the customer before the leave takes away a lot of the excitement.
I really like Burger Shop - I have had the game for a while now and it is one that I go back to often, at least a couple of times a week. It is really simple to play but as you progress it provides me with enough of a challenge. I am currently trying to get expert on all the Expert mode games, and failing miserably, but that is what keeps me coming back! Burger Shop is currently available at www.bigfishgames.com for £5.39 which I would be happy to pay as there is a lot of content to the game, but it is often featured on the daily deal and for £2.30 is an absolute bargain!!
