Having never been a huge fan of the previous call of duty games, but always having recognised that they were still highly rated amongst most people, i decided to buy Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare for PC, having read some rave reviews about it.

I am so glad I bought it. Firstly this game is fun. I think that is the most important thing about a game. While graphics are important, the gameplay should be fun and something you want to do! On top of the great gameplay, the graphics are very good as well, making this a great package.

As suggested by the title, the action is set in modern times, and I think this is what I most enjoyed about the game. The fact that I was dealing with weapons and gadgets of the current war era. This made the game seem very realistic and I just fully felt like I was in a war myself.

The gameplay usually consists of you in a team of soldiers fighting through enemy lines, either defending a territory or trying to get to a location to do something to complete the objective. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that a lot of the game was team based, you really feel like you are fighting for your life, but also trying to protect your fellow soldiers, and coordinate attacks with them. There are also missions and objectives which involve you doing things on your own, and this gives variety and keeps you interested.

The game is very cinematic, and this too I thought created great suspense and feeling within the game. There would be times throughout where you would load into a cutscene, from the eyes of your character, usually in some kind of trouble or pain, but slowly the game would put you back in control during the cutscene and it just felt so realistic like that. It felt at times as though you were watching a really good film, but then suddenly you would be thrown back into control - even more satisfying!

The graphics are great. The locations you get to fight in look amazing, and the enemies are well created. The explosions from grenades and other weapons look really good, and it all just feels spot on.

The sound is good, I am not really an expert on sound so wouldn't know if there was something wrong, but as far as I can tell, it all sounded right!

The enemy AI is pretty good, if you expose yourself for too long, you will get shot and killed, especially on the harder settings. They throw grenades and try and flank you to flush you out, something which makes the game more challenging.

My only problem with the game is its length. The main campaign doesn't last longer than a couple of hours, but online play will keep you interested for longer if you so wish.

Summary: A great cinematic experience with you in control!
