Advantages: Fun, different game modes, Co-op
Disadvantages: None
Call Of Duty: World At War is the newest in the long line of Call Of Duty Titles (number 5 to be precise). It is a first person shooter. This game is based in World War II, mainly the Pacific War and the Easter Front. Unlike its predecessor Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, which had modern weapons and a modern setting. The game contains single player and multiplayer content.
In single player/ campaign mode, you fight along side computer controlled soldiers to defeat the enemy. There is probably about ten hours of solid gameplay. This is not paticularily long, but it means the game does not drag on.
The campaign can also be played co-operatively with up to 3 other people. This can be done over the internet or over LAN. I find this much more enjoyable than having to play through the whole game on my own.
Another Co-Op game that can be played (It can also be played single player, just a lot more difficult) is Nazi Zombies. As the name suggests, this entails having to kill lots and lots of Nazi Zombies. You start in a single room with barricaded windows, and Nazi Zombies will try and attack you by breaking down the barricades. The windows can be barricaded back up. This is split into levels and each time the amount of zombies doubles. Also, in each of the Nazi Zombie levels, you can go through doors or remove blockages to access new parts of the level. There are currently only two levels available for this mode, but one is in the works (it is available on Xbox Live so can't be long now).
The campaign can be a bit boring on your own, but play with your friends, i.e. co-op, is a lot more fun.
Finally, there is the multiplayer. The multiplayer has various different modes; Search and Destroy, War, Domination, Capture the Flags, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Headquarters: -
Search And Destroy
Search and Destroy conists of the attacking team having to eliminate all enemies (you do not respawn) or plant a bomb and defend it for 45 seconds, and the defending team has to either eliminate all enemies or defuse the bomb before it goes off.
War
In War, there are five points, two for each team, and one neutral one (in the centre). To win the game, one team must take all of the flags or if this does not happen in the specific time, there is a final battle for one flag
Domination
Domination does not have a time limit, and it is just to see which team gets the most points. Points are earned by kills (5 points), assists (1 point), capture the flag (15 points), and holding a flag (1 point for every second it is in your possession).
Capture The Flag
Capture the flag is a very simple game. Each team has a flag and must defend it, and try to steal the opponents flag.
Free For All and Team Deathmatch
Free For All is a just an every man for themself game. Team Deathmatch is two teams battle for the most kills.
Headquarters
In headquarters, each team must try and capture a certain point on the map. This gains them 5 points, and a further 5 points for every 5 seconds it is held. The winner is the team with the most points.
The different game modes make the game feel less reptitive by varying the style of play.
As you play through Call Of Duty: World At War online, you go up in ranks by gaing EXP (Experience points). This earns you weapons, perks, and the ability to create a class, which means you can customise your character with specific perks, weapons, grenades etc of your choice. Perks help you with online play by giving you abilities such as better health, improved accuracy etc.
Overall I think that this game is fun to play, and just a nice stop gap between Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
If you enjoyed the other Call Of Dutys, you should enjoy this.
Summary: If you like first person shooters, give it a go.
