This is a review of a World War II game, that has been acclaimed the game of the year (2003) called Call Of Duty. Fight against Nazi forces through four campaigns where you will be able to experience the war yourself. Play through twenty-four epic single-player missions or if you think your ready fight online in an Axis versus Allies team-based multiplayer action. In this game you will never fight alone, you will take on the enemy German forces with a big force on your own, with their own names and ranking. You will end up going through basic training then ending up fighting tanks and taking out enemy strongholds with your squad and take advantage against the German’s.

Each campaign in the game is different, as you will be fighting as an American, the British and even the Russians as you fight your way through the German’s and achieve victory. Every mission you play through will have its own unique objectives for you to accomplish throughout the game. You will get to be a soldier helping out your squad do their objectives, and you will even be able to take control of tanks to make the battles more intense and putting you more in the heat of the action.

You will be able to experience famous battles from World War II such as D-Day, the Battle of Stalingrad and the Battle for Berlin which are epic and very intense for you to have lots of fun with. You will be able to use rifles, machine guns, sniper rifles, pistols, and grenades to kill your enemies fast, and you will be able to pick up guns off of dead people, and switch them with the guns you have, and also find ammo if you are low. You will also be able to use stationary weapons which you will use to take advantage of a fight. You will also be able to use melee attack if you get close range to your target, and it saves you from being alerted and is a good sneaky way to pick off your targets one by one. You will experience how it would be to be a real soldier in World War II as this game brings you into the war and it’s not just like you are playing a game.

The multiplayer of this game is probably the best First Person Shooter multiplayer around, as you will be able to go through many multiplayer maps on the net with friends or complete strangers and show them your skill in the heat of war. You will be able to choose which server you join or even create a server and have complete control. You will also be able to choose which team you want to be on (depending on what the map is, is depending on what allies team it is), and even choose which weapon you start off with. There are also many game modes for you to play with also like Deathmatch (which is kill as many enemies as you can), Team Deathmatch (pretty much the same as Deathmatch but you have a squadron of soldiers with you) and others like Search And Destroy (you plant a bomb at certain points and try to kill of the enemies) which is pretty fun and others such as HQ (you establish a HQ at certain points of the map and try and guard it for as long as you can with your team). Also good thing in multiplayer, you will have lots of commands you can give out like move in, or others like yes sir, no sir, and the soldier actually shouts this out.

In the war, it is always best to use whatever cover you can get to, even if it’s a little bit, it could still save your life. You will have so much health, and loose health depending if you get shot, you can die faster if you get shot in crucial areas of your body, but there are health packs on the field of battle if you just look for it, also you can get health sometimes when you kill enemy soldiers. You won’t always be in the heat of battle, you will sometimes be told to cover areas that may suddenly get attacked by loads of enemy soldiers, and sometimes you will be retreating from the enemy so you can get advantage for a counter-attack. When you die in the game, you normally get a famous quote, and one of them quotes that I remember and is probably one of my favorites is “Retreating? No we are just advancing in the other direction”.

You will fight through towns and villages; you will fight across vast fields and even fight in the snow and the night. Each battle gets more intense then the last so be prepared for each battle. In some battles you will need to take down enemy tanks which can be very hard if you don’t have a bazooka or an ally tank with you. Considering you will have to sneak behind it and put charges on the tank, which is very hard, but very fun. Just makes the game more challenging and more like a proper war game.

I thought the playability of the game is great, lots of fun with experience World War II first hand and has pretty decent playback, also you have a brilliant multiplayer that will keep you having fun for months and will still not get boring to you. I really enjoyed this game, but did not know about this game until around a year after it was released, but lucky for me it was now in a Deluxe Edition so I managed to get it with its expansion pack United Offensive which was pretty good. The campaigns are very long; the missions are intense and hardcore. Very enjoyable for you war game fans and people who just love First Person Shooters, and probably if you don’t you will like this game.

The single-player is very addictive until you complete it, then you will start playing the multiplayer more or wanting more single-player missions, but it is still quite addictive, there will be some missions that keep bringing you back for more. The multiplayer on the other hand is extremely addictive and will keep you going for months on end, and you still will want more and more as it’s just that good. It is one of those games that are pretty much on your mind the whole time, so if you get this game, I recommend you make a lot of time for it. The game is very original, you will see parts of the war that has never been made into a game before, as it does not focus on all of the main parts of the war which I think is very good considering the game is therefore more educational which makes it more appealing to people and therefore the game is better as more people play the multiplayer. Very good indeed.

The graphics are pretty amazing, but thinking that it is top notch which it looks like a first point, but when you see Call Of Duty 2, these graphics will seem a bit pixily in places, but in its day the graphics for this game were awesome and still are. The games physique engine is awesome, so much going on at once, and it just seems like a masterpiece, if you are a game fan in general, this game is one to be looked at. The music in this game is very epic, and makes the game really fantastic, as you get scary type music when you are being chased after or loosing a battle, and then you get heroic epic music when you are taking victory from the enemies grasp. The sound effects are very good, the sounds of the guns are amazing, and each gun sounds a bit different, and you even get the noise of them reloading or carrying gear around which makes this game realistic. The voices are in English except the German’s which speak in German. You will get them talk during battles, before battles in the briefing area (which they show you what you’re going to be up against and where you will be) and even when the battles over which is brilliant.

The game can be very difficult depending on what difficulty you put it on. There are four difficulties, there is Greenhorn (easy), Regular (Normal), Hardened (Hard), Veteran (Expert), depending at what skill level you are with the game is what one you choose, but for people whom are new, I recommend Greenhorn so you can get use to the game in an easier war, but if you are brilliant at the game or war games in general, then go for Veteran as then even the best of the best will probably fall.

I really enjoyed this game, and liked everything about it, especially the multiplayer as that gave me hours of enjoyment with mates and even just on my own with people I don’t know on the net. The graphics are decent, the gameplay is brilliant, it is pretty much the game to get as it is fairly cheap now also, which can make it even better, getting a great game for a low price. But it is best to get the game with the expansion pack, as you will probably be asking for more at the end of Call Of Duty. I give this game 4 star * * * *, as I think it is brilliant, but I have played Call Of Duty 2, and it pretty much blows it away on every aspect. You can get the Deluxe Edition (which gives you Call Of Duty and its Expansion Pack plus new multiplayer maps) for £15 on Play.com, if not you can get the game singularly for £9.99 on play.com.
