Advantages: Hours of gameplay for your money

Disadvantages: Can be a bit slow loading towards the end on the game

When I consider the time I spent playing this last winter I think this is the best value for money entertainment I've bought in a long time! Starting with just a small group of settlers you have to build an entire civilisation from scratch and build up to world domintation, taking care of everything from your peoples' culture and happiness to scientific advances and developing relationships with other world leaders as you go.
It's quite a delicate balance to get everything right and that's part of why this game is so addictive, there seems to be more to consider every time you play and it's really interesting to try different styles of leadership. For example, I got stuck in a rut of trying to develop my culture to become 'legendary', racing to build world wonders everytime I played. However, when my boyfriend started declaring war on everyone I found that I wasn't ready for it and had to get defensive at the cost of my cities' happiness, resulting in my own people refusing to work! Add to this the fact that every 'leader' figure has a slightly different personality type and you start to get and idea of how truly complex and fascinating this game can become!
There are also several different ways to win the game, ranging from cultural domination to scientific advancement (winning the space race) to physical domination, which can only be achieved by war, and a diplomatic vote. It's wise to start planning which you are going to try for early in the game and build your entire culture with one of these victories in mind.
I highly, highly recomend this to anyone who likes strategic games. I can't wait to try the expansions!
