Advantages: A game that spawed many succesful sequals
Disadvantages: Hard to complete
One of my favourite games which has provided me with plenty of game play and entertainment, one of my favourites parts is upgrading my palace where every so often when your citizens are happy you can upgrade part of your throne room.
Story
You have to build your own empire, taking on the role as the leader and leading your nation to victory against several opposing empires. You start of in a new world which you have to explore and decide on where to build your new cities, what military unit to builds and upgrade your cities whilst defending them against the enemy and also deciding which technology you want to develop.
Game play
You start of in 4000BC and lead your kingdom up to the 2100's if you can survive that long, so there is plenty of technology and units to play around with. You have to explore the landscape to find the best areas to build your cities and expand your empire and build a trade network.
You can select which historical nation you want to lead each one having their own advantages and each nation is lead by a historical character so you can be fighting against Stalin in 4000BC.
You can manage most options yourself or if you prefer the computer will automatically do it, you can select your tax rate, luxury rate to increase your money and then decide what to spend it on.
You also can build wonders of the world which help improve the moral of your citizens and provide benefits to you, but these can only be built once and cost a lot of resources to build so if you want them you have to build them the enemy.
To win the game you either have to destroy the enemy or by winning the space race.
Controls/Graphics
The game is easy to control and easy to learn, the graphics are basic but good enough for you to know what is going on and allows easy movement around the map.
Value for Money
With it being an old game you will be able to buy it cheaply, so well worth buying as you can still get hours of game play out of it if you want a good strategy game and do not mind about the graphics.
Summary: A game that has aged well and still as fun to play now as it was years ago
