Advantages: A must have.
Disadvantages: Quite hard to handle for beginners.
This is actually the sound of my Peugeot 206's engine waiting green light to start rallying this impressive game. Codemasters disappointed me in the past with some of its rally games, but this time, this is another story! Colin McRae 2 is a must have if you talk about Rally games or even Race games. Basic options are not really inovative: you have a choice among the actual cars which you can see on BBC Sports Channel at night, from the Subaru Impreza, to the Ford 'McRae' Focus, and some others like my favorite, the Peugeot 206 (hey, I'm a Frog after all!). I tried some other cars, and there's a real difference from one to another with the grip, the driving experience, etc... Numbers of races are impressive: the rally season is divided in 8 regions (England, Italy, France, Sweden, etc...), each divided again in 8 races. Each race requires different type of settings, that you can change in the set up menu before the beginning of the race. This menu is particularly interesting if you're racing as an expert and not just as an arcade gamer. It's true, settings can change everything (I mean your final results and therefore the behavior of your car) if you're driving on snow, mud, huge or thin roads, etc... The Season game type (expert mode) adds some more entertainment and tension to the driver you're going to be: if the car is experiencing accidents or crashes, it will destroy it from little to little, and therefore it will decrease your car's capacities (grip, speed, etc...). This needs a good 3D video card, at least a TNT 16 bits, but it's the minimum you can afford if you want to play this game the more enjoyable way.
