Advantages: Brilliant in small sparks., Nice graphics

Disadvantages: Let down on the whole no quake., woeful sound

The story
********
Daikatana is based in the future, 2455. An evil Dictator “Kage Mishima” has changed events in the past, and it’s your job to go back in time and change the terrible work of Kage Mishima You will travel through 4 different time periods to try to bring stop this evil dictator. You play as Hiro Miyamoto A Japanese student. To save the world you have to must complete 16 missions, you also have 2 other playable characters Mikiko Ebihara and Superfly Johnson. This isn’t the most original of stories but its ok.

Controls
********
I will tell you the basic controls of the game. The control system is a bit different from games like Goldeneye. In Goldeneye you use the 3D stick to move the characters around, But in this game you use the C-buttons to move the characters around top-c moves you forwards, bottom-C moves you backwards and Right-c and left-c move you right and left. I found this a bit annoying to be honest I prefer the system in Goldeneye, After playing this for a while you will get use to it. The A button makes your character crouch you do this to hide from your enemies. You use the B button to select your weapon; this is easy and simple to do. You use the R button to jump and climb over stuff this is quite easy to do. You use the Z button to use your weapon, or to attack. You use the 3D to Change your camera angle. You use the D-pad to change between running slow and faster, in multiplayer Mode you use this to select the map.

The levels
**********
There are a total of 4 Chapters where you do in-between 4-6 missions within each chapter. Each chapter you play in a different time period. The chapters are set in 4 different places on earth From a Japanese fortress which looks kind of old fashioned and like a village doesn’t give you much of a feel for the future. The second Chapter is set in Greece it looks quite grand with the feel of a holy surrounding the graphics on these levels are quite good and look realistic. The Third Chapter looks kind of like where you would see the Vikings fighting. The 4th chapter takes place in San Francisco 2033bc you are mainly inside a research centre, fighting against zombie looking creatures. The missions are similar to the missions in games like Goldeneye and mission impossible, you have to get through a certain level without being killed and to gain items to help you in further levels. The first chapter not hard and you have to does talk like in The 3rd level in chapter one where you have to destroy a computer mainframe to release a girl from a force field nothing to difficult. The first two chapters are quite easy and most gamers won’t find these much of a challenged. The 3rd and 4th chapters are quite a bit harder and take some more skill. In the forth mission when you fight the bad guy this comes across as quite hard. Most of the levels are based on the same theme you shoot some bad guys and complete missions; you get to use a few different playable characters through the different time periods. The levels are good but when you compare this to games like Mission impossible, Goldeneye or Quake it really isn’t very well done.
Chapter 1 is Miki The Mishima Fortress – 25th century Japanko Ebihara
Chapter 2 is Ancient Greek
Chapter 3 Medieval Norway
Chapter 4 Alcatraz Island 2033 BC San Francisco

Weapons/ and other items
**********************
There are a total of 24 weapons the Shock wave this is a gun where you shoot out bombs and it causes a shockwave. There are many weapons from bow and arrows to hammers you hit the floor with to cause Shock waves you also get to use machine guns and Grenades. There are also other items you get Hp Recovery this is used to restore your health there are different health items that will restore different levels of health from a heart that will restore 100 health points, and a first aid package restores 25 health points. There is also armor when you wear this your health is reduce by half, there are 8 different armor items saving either 100 or 200 health points And also items which will increase your skill level in you, Vitality, attack, Speed, Power, and Acro this is a special that lets you jump higher. The weapons are really good and original you and fun to use I love using the bow and arrows. The health items are ok and are put in good locations but there are less of these in the later levels. There are also ammo restore items that are placed around the levels.

Multiplayer mode
***************
There are two Different types of multi-player modes, the first mode is where you have to kill you opponents, this is in most shoot-em-ups like Goldeneye you have to get a certain about of frags or kills to win or the most frags in a certain time limit. The second mode is where you have to collect 5 jewels before your opponents do. These modes are fun but are a bit limited unlike Goldeneye where you get many more modes with more choices of weapons and modes like one shoot and your dead. In multiplayer mode there are many characters to choose from most you will see throughout the game, Superfly Johnson, Mikiko Ebihara, And the main character Hiro Miyamoto they are many others but you can find out them for yourself.

Graphics
*********
The graphics are colourful and clear and there is not much fuzziness within this game like there is in Turok 2. Some of the levels look really great the first level gives the feel of doom so it does feel a bit outdated but it does have a Japanese feeling to it, But the levels in general are to a good standard and they do they job, the characters look very good if not too original looking.

Gameplay
*********
Like I said in the control section the controls are different from the likes of Goldeneye and Mission Impossible and it takes a while to get use to the controlling through the C-buttons but you do get use to this after time. The characters themselves do move quite well and feel realistic as they can but I do feel it is lacking when compared to games available now a-days the buttons work well.

Sound
********
The music in the backgrounds is good and creates and good feel for this game I love the music on the Ancient Greek Chapter it is quite cool. The sound effects are pretty nice but can become annoying after time the sound of the weapons and movement of the characters is good.

Overall
********
If you have Goldeneye and have got bored of it which I don’t think is possible then this could be a cheap alterative, This is not the best game in the world but the levels are well part together and the graphics are of a good standard, there are better games available but I do like this game even though I haven’t played it no where near as much as Goldeneye. This game won't leave you want to play it non-stop but you will go back to it. I would recommend this game as long as you give this game time to grow on you, I it’s very similar to Body-harvest but the graphics are slightly better. This game is suitable for 15+ as they is some violence involved. I will give this game three out of five, because there are many better games out they and now a-days you can get them for a cheap price too. I bought this game for £4.99 from Vision games in Buckinghamshire.

Players: 1-4
Compatible: with the rumble paks and the Memory paks. This game also works with the N64 expansion Pak for enhanced graphics.
Price I paid: £4.99

I'm not really a games player, but this sounds quite good fun - don't think I'd actually be any good at it though! Cheers, Jan
