I bought this game as I love watching Desperate Housewives, I love playing PC games and it was quite cheap.
The game starts out with you as the 6th housewife. You choose your name and appearance as well as your husband and son's names and appearance.
The game is very similar to The Sims in the sense that you control your character. She can cook, clean, garden, go shopping and visit her neighbours. Most of this is only done when you want to complete mini games (they are not necessary, but I found them more entertaining than the game itself). The game revolves around you and your amnesia and how it came about.
The game gives you lots of choices in conversations and this is where you can choose your path/which direction you want the game to go.
The negative side to the game is that it takes some time to load and is very drawn out and if you make the wrong decision, it's a bit hard to fix and get back on track. You can also only play this game once, maybe twice if you have the patience.
It's a good game if you're a die-hard Desperate Housewives fan and have plenty time on your hands.
I don't watch desperate housewives but as a massive fan of the Sims, the possibility with this game to sneak into people's houses, cheat with their husbands, slap some housewives and just indulge in scandal interested me. I love creating twisted stories and generally ruining lives (of my Sims). For a game that is based on a TV show that is so ludicrous and scandalous, how it translated to a computer game is extremely important.
So I was a new "housewife" in Wisteria Lane; I was able to create my initial look and select some basic clothing- of course I was an attractive [slut] out on a mission to ruin everyone else's lives. Mwahhahhahaha. Hold it.
The tutorial or initial game play is rather linear and it guides you through how to play the game. As an avid gamer, this was immensely tedious as I'm sure many others will agree, you just want to plunge straight into the game. So after that, I was walking around my house, meeting the new housewives and so on, before I was given missions.
You see, this game has a branched linear storyline that you can choose to follow in order to progress the game. Of course, you can ignore them and just do what you like, but these options are limited if you don't do what it wants you to.
The overall story takes about 10-20 hours of game play (including some personal side missions). This is quite solid, but there is room for expansion and the game could offer so much more. In exchange for the story quality, a lot more freedom can be offered to "create your own story", whilst characters on the show can be loosely based.
Graphically, it was three dimensionally and the movement of the characters were smooth. I liked the short movie clips that played, although this took time to load. The whole world was colourful and looked very realistic with some good detail of objects, clothes and hair.
Other small things I liked include the voiceovers and the music which comes from the show.
One issue I found was that the game required quite mid-high computer system (which I didn't have) and the game lagged quite a bit and at times, didn't load. This is most frustrating as I assume most players of this game will not be a regular gamer and perhaps not have access to a high end system to play this, which will ultimately make the success of this suffer.
I bought the game for under £5, and I am sure you can get this four around this price if not less online.
Despite the linear storyline, the game still offers enough freedom for you to enjoy the perks of being a bitchy housewife, engaging in sexual affairs with all your neighbours' husbands. Too bad you can't do entice the other housewives as well.
An excellent game for anyone wo is in love with Desperate Housewives like me, although, I doubt it would be as much fun if you don't watch the program.
I recently got this as a birthday gift however I was thinking of buying myself anyway. It is quite a cheap game but definate worth the money if not more money!
It is basically a point and click game but you do get some options of dialogue which may affect the way the game plays in differnet ways.
Before the game starts you get to choose the appearance and name of your character. You also get to choose the the name and appearance of your husband and son, although there are not as many options. When choosing your own appearance there are very few options and there is only a limited choice of clothing aswell.
At the start of the game you are new housewife who has just move to Wisteria Lane. Your husband is a doctor and has just started a new practice at the mall! In the first episode it is basically a tutorial. You meet the different housewives and get to know your husband a little. You also learn that you have amnesia and can remember anything from the last 10 years.
As the game progresses it all builds around the point of your amnesia. The main plot is excellent, just like in a series of he program. It makes you want to continue playing to find out more. I don't want to give too much away but there is an amazing conclusion that ends in a three-way life changing decision for your character.
Throuhout the game however, you are diverted from what you really want to be doing, finding out more about the main plot, but menial tasks that don't have any real effect on the game.
The look of the game has a very sims-like feel to it, I wouldn't be surprised if it was made by the same people, although I don't know.
The game case says that certain things affect the game such as how you dress, although this dosn't actually seem to have any real effect at all.
Overall, this is an amazing game for people who are in love with Desperate Housewives, theplot is filled with twists and turns and drama that is typical of Wisteria Lane. Even if you don't watch the program, you can still get some good enjoyment out of this game, as shown by my sister who had never seen the show before but bought the game after seeingme playing it and now loves the game, whether she will take up watching Desperate Housewives now, I don't know, but I hope she does!
I think the game should have been made to last a bit longer though, I finished it in a couple of nights and then wanted to continue playing.
I have had this game for about a year now. I have completed it twice but I think that will be me not playing it for another couple of years. It is based on the popular tv programme Desperate Housewives and you get to live like one of the gang. It's easy to play with hints to tell you what to do. There is a map to get you from place to place and if you double click on a house it will take you there instantly rather than waiting for your character to walk there. You have a mobile that will ring from time to time, just click on it to answer. It will log everything you have bought/stolen until you need it.
The game reminds me of The Sims. You make a character with a name and also choose a husband and a son. It's a shame because you don't get to go into great detail making your husband and child but you do get to make your character to almost the way you want. Again there's not a great range of choices so don't spend too long making the characters.
Once you finally have your family, you then move into a house in Wisteria Lane, it would be better if you did get to buy all your furniture or even build the house but unfotunately it is all done for you. You do get to upgrade some of the furniture but not much of it.
So once the game starts you get to do tasks and make friends with the other characters. You have conversations with them and you get to choose what you reply to their questions, whether you want to be nice or nasty to them. This will lead you to become friends with some of the street and join in on their famous poker nights. If you can play poker then you'll enjoy this part of the game but to be honest it bored me a bit.
Once you get to know the characters they will ask you for favours - again you can choose what you want to do and if you want to go ahead with it. Theres good storylines which your character is always involved in.
Back at home you have to clean rooms. You also get to cook - which is my favourite bit of the game, you choose a recipe and work through making it, you get timed doing this and depending on how well you do it and keep within the times you will get marked. Once you get used to it, it can be quite simple and I usually got A+, after you've done the first lot of recipes it will unlock more for you. You also get to tend to your garden which is a few tasks as well but don't get too carriedd away because it's easy to spend all your money on flowers!!
You do get to go shopping, take the car down to the mall to buy more clothes, perfume, chocolates and loads more. You also get to go and change your appearance if you get bored of it. There is also a pawn shop and if you talk to the owner he will ask you to find items that he'll pay good money for, you then have to sneak into your neighbours houses to find this, without getting caught and if you make too much noise you have to run out of the house before getting caught!!
You can make good friendships with the characters, enemies out of others and even slap them if you don't like what they're saying to you. With the male characters you can seduce them, which could be fun, but the only thing about this is theyh never talk about it so it's never a storyline which would make it very interesting, just like the tv programme!!
I found the game didn't last long and you can't really get completely into the game before all off a sudden it ends. As much as I enjoyed all the tasks and bits and pieces you get to do, and I find all of it makes it great to play and some of it is more fun than the Sims but with the game not lasting long it is a bit of a disappointment.
The game is currently selling on Amazon for £3.99. I do think it's worth that price even if you only play it once but I wouldn't pay more for it. I think if they spent more time making a new one and making the game last a lot longer with more things to do with your house it would be fantastic.
From my college days I am a big fan of desperate housewives and keeps on discussing it with my friends. I had the posters of its characters in my room . So when my mom gave this game as my birthday present I was really overjoyed. This game is actually played as you are the sixth new neighbour who have also entered in the five friends inner circle. You have to feed your family that comprises of your husband and a son. You are also suffering from amnesia so you don't remember relating to past. You gain points by doing various household choirs. WHen you gain enough points many things and instruments are unblocked. You can even sneak into your neighbours house to see what they are doing thats really not very nice thing to do. You have to resolve different problems to unfold the mystery. You have whole wardrobe to select from. I really enjoyed playing that game
****Desperate Housewives: The Game****
The only reason i got this was because my friend bought it for herself and it didn't work on her computer.I only mention this because this was apparently a big fault with the game-something to do with video cards or something and the game not recognising them?(not very good with technology so not sure).Thankfully this wasn't a problem for me so i got what i class as a good game(hi-five!!)
You (a housewife) with amnesia have just moved to Wisteria Lane with your son and husband (who is a doctor)
There are several mini games in the game including gardening and cooking-all of which need need to be completed for you to do well in the main game. In the cooking one it works a bit like cooking mama in that you have a timeframe in which to do stuff. As you complete dishes more open up and you can serve better meals to your family in the game.
One thing i don't like in the game is that you can sneak into the other neighbours houses and steal-i think that children could get the wrong message from this-that it is okay to steal as long as you don't get caught.
I really like the cooking game and it reeminds me of cooking mama
There are several different endings in the game all depending in what you do in the game(whether you are nice or not etc)
I got this game as a gift from my boyfriend because he knew I loved watching Desperate Housewives and wanted to get me more into gaming (one of his hobbies) so thought I might enjoy this.
This game involved me being a new character that has just moved into Wistera Lane and become the 6th Desperate Housewife.
I firstly had to create a family, choose my family name, names for myself, my husband and son and then create our appearance and clothing. I don't get to choose what I and my husband do for a living but it has to tie in with the story of the game so I guess that's fair enough. I quite enjoyed choosing a look, hair colour/ style for myself, my husband and son. Then there's only a limited amount of clothing I can choose from but I can buy more as the game progresses.
My story starts off quite strange as I discover that my character has a scar on their face that needs covering up with make up. I also discover that I don't really remember much about my past and that I suffer from amnesia. 10 years of my life are a complete blank and I don't quite know how to explain this to my new friends.
You get to choose form different dialogues, which response would suit your mood best, you also get to cook, garden, shop etc. These activities will help you to stay emotionally healthy. Your objective is to keep your own, your husband and sons emotional wellbeing healthy and their other needs will also pop up when they need tending to.
I found that, whist doing all the cooking and gardening, I didn't get to find out more about the story as fast as I would have wanted. I'd also get frustrated with getting the answer or mission wrong and therefore being delayed with the story and being stuck trying to fix my problem.
Although the story was good and this game kept me quite entertained for a good couple of hours, I'm just not a gamer and therefore did not complete this. I guess you'd have to be really into gaming and wanting to complete your mission in order to get the most out of this game but I get bored easily and am much better off with shorter games or puzzle games that I can quit at any time.
