... encountered in every other adventure game of this type) is that you sometimes have to spend ages going through every item and notepad entry with every character, trying to find out what you've missed, since you've got stuck in a dead-end with apparently nothing else to do. Occasionally, you do feel that the amount of dialogue in the game is overwhelming, but you can skip it if you think it's not important. (Then again, you may be wrong...) The plot originally revolves around a simple case of tracking someone down for a ...more

Crowned Review Discworld Noir (PC): Who'd be a Private Detective on the Disc? (1539 words)

*** This review was originally published at by myself at http://www.epinions.com/content_176209956484 *** Overview I am quite a fan of the "point and click" adventure game genre, especially the LucasArts games - the Monkey Island series in particular. The earlier Discworld games were quite fun too, but Discworld Noir takes things to a new level. It is quite different from those games, although still has at its heart the same sense of discovery and problem-solving. This game is based around you as the Disc's first (and most probably last) Private Investigator. It does help quite a bit if you have read some of the books, not necessarily ...  Read the complete review

Its recently been estimated that 1% of all books sold in Britain are ones written by Terry Pratchett, personally I’ve always been a Douglas Adams fanatic (there you go I’ve said it already) and so always kept away from Terry Pratchett, why?, I dunno really, I started to read Terry Pratchett books a couple of years ago and loved them, and then this game came out around the same time, my luck was in. This is the third of the Discworld games, and is different from the previous games (so I’ve heard), I’ve not actually played them, but I gather you played Rincewind, a character from the books, and it was much more cartoon-like. Discworld Noir ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Discworld Noir (PC): Discworld at the Movies (1298 words)

DISCWORLD NOIR PC -------------------- Anyone that has read any of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series will know that they are humorous semi fantasy type books, but maybe you didn't know that he has actually released a few computer games based on the series. Discworld noir is the third game in the series (Fourth if you include the old Spectrum type in adventure 'The Colour of magik') Unlike Discworld one and two, which both featured Rincewind the trainee wizard, and some very colourful and cartoony graphics, this game takes us down a much darker shadier alley and threatens you with a switchblade. The Discworld series ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review At last They Get It Right! (481 words)

Whilst the original Discworld inspired game was somthing of a let down to all but the most serious fans, being so obscure that no one could understand what the hell was going on and the second so over-simplified to make it extremely unenjoyable, the producers of Noir seem to have finaly got the balance right. Noir, takes the film noir genre as its main point of ridicule, putting you as the Discworld's first private eye in a truly surreal adventure. Whilst the present trend seems to be towards games which allow full freedom around a virtual world, there still seems to be a market for others which rely upon the old-style location based puzzles. Here you can ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Discworld Noir (PC): The Final Episode. (625 words)

I have always been a fan of the adventure games which are so often called "point and click"- Monkey Island series, Grim Fandango, Simon the sorceror..etc yet i had never played either of the 2 discworlds. They were both highly reccomended to me but since they had long been made i could not get a hold of them, and then Discworld Noir came out. What made this a great option for me was that it was a totally new character and story from the previous Discworld games. The character is Lewton he is a Private Investigator in the hell hole that is Ankh-Morpork. At the start of the game we see his (future) death in a cut-scene, We then take control of ...  Read the complete review
