There is two modes you can play, one mode where you are set tasks and have to complete them so you can progress with the game or another mode where you can just drive about exploring the place trying to avoid the police! You have to complete a variety of tasks in order to progress in the game. As there is no real story line to the game the main objective to the game seems to be to race about in your car avoiding the police. If you are chased by the police...more

Premium Review Driver (PC): Drivering Me Up The Wall (744 words)

Rating:

This has to be one of the most unsatisfying games of 1999. After all the hype, the screenshots and rave reviews on Playstation, Driver is a serious disappointment. When Driver was reported as having the best parts of Midtown Madness, Need For Speed and GTA I went out and bought it immediately. I wasn’t expecting the graphics of GTA and the boring tracks of Need For Speed. OK so the graphics aren’t that bad but they are nowhere near the quality of Midtown Madness of NFS Road Challenge. The best thing about Driver is the handling, which, once you have mastered the basics in the car park, is truly incredible. Wheelspins, handbrake turns and burnouts on ...  Read the complete review

Driver is set in mid 70's USA and for a change you get to play the part of the bad guys! The plot is simple, you have been 'hired' as a driver by various underworld gangs, and the job entails driving like the clappers in order to succeed. Missions range from simply picking up the boss and taking him to a 'meeting' to more complex jaunts such as ramming the rival gangleaders car off the road. Althoug the idea is simple, the games strength is the atmosphere it conveys. As you drive around the cities (starting in Miami and ending in New York) you notice other drivers lawfully going about their business (even indicating when ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Driver (PC): Hey, Starsky...it's my turn to drive! (455 words)

I remember reading an article on this game late 1999 and thinking this could be the best driving expereince ever had via a home PC. I waited with baited breath, checking the magazines and internet for information of its release. The months flew by and nothing had been said since this article. I began to doubt that any such game was in development, then, it arrived! Well, it did for the Playstation (oops, sorry PSOne). Then one Autumn day the PC version turned up in the PC World store that I worked at. This game was immediately installed on the demonstration machines and everyone was hooked. It sold like hotcakes (what DOES that phrase mean?) and got ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Not Route 66 (453 words)

With Driver, one of the most hyped games of the year, developers GT have come up with a concept that will be a dream come true for many people, like me, who used to watch action films purely for the car chases. Ever since the immensely successful Grand Theft Auto demonstrated a couple of years ago how much people enjoy tearing through jam-packed cities at irresponsible speeds, a 3D version take on the concept was bound to appear. As with GTA, Driver gives the player full freedom to go anywhere at anytime within the city boundaries. Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York have all been digitised with varying degrees of success, and at the very least you ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Driver (PC): Driver (243 words)

Driver is one of the best driving games around so far!! It is set in 70's USA and there are 3 possible towns for you to drive around in. You first have to complete each city to be able to move onto the next. To start with you have to complete a driving "test". If you are somebody who gives up easily, then this game isn't for you - it can get quite difficult at times! You take the place of an undercover cop, assigned to do various missions, or if you cant stand that kind of pace, you can just take a drive around. It gets especially good when you get to New York, virtually every landmark is there, Empire State ...  Read the complete review
