Colin McRae Rally (PC)
by DooYou
McRae's dominance of the 1998 season was excellent news for Codemaster's official video game of the Subaru driver - Colin McRae Rally for PC. Already highly praised in the games press from early code demonstrations, Codemasters grabbed support for the title with a £2million European marketing campaign.
Colin McRae Rally was ... set to become the most realistic, thrilling and wholly playable rally game with the game engine based upon Codemaster's very own highly successful TOCA Touring Cars. You get to drive at speeds of 160mph and take your car to the edge of its handling ability. The game is a gruelling world rally championship, where you have to battle against the elements in 48 different stages, over 8 countries. All 12 world rally cars with full set up options have been reproduced, using telemetry data for accurate reproductions of power and handling - these include the Subaru, Impreza WRC 98, Toyota, Corolla WRC, Ford, Escort WTC, Renault Megane, VW Golf GTi, Mitsubishi, Lancer E4, Seat Ibiza kit Car Evo2 and Skoda Felicia.
Achieve winning times to drive point-to-point stages, as well as super-special stages across the toughest terrains and tracks around the world. Compete in Individual Stages, 8 International Rallies or the entire Championship. Take handling to the edge with the brilliant car physics which allow you to perform manoeuvres such as power slides. You can also get dirty with a system that allows mud, snow and water to change cars appearance. Collisions result in damage to car body & handling on impact but there are car set-up and repair options so you can get back into the race as soon as possible. There are thrilling night driving stages, a multitude of surfaces to master including ice, snow, gravel, tarmac and mud, plus you get a choice of five views including 'Head Cam' from right inside the car.
When you get tired of playing alone you can compete against a friend using the 2 player split screens, 5 racing views, new Super Special Stages and best of all Colin McRae himself is on hand to tutor and grade drivers at the Rally School. Colin McRae's co-driver, Nicky Grist, also provides co-driver commentary and directions throughout the game. Read the complete review |

Carmageddon TDR 2000 (PC)
by DooYou
Why not sit at home on your PC and blow up everything in your path?!
What ever happened to happy thoughts about the future, you know, houses on clouds, hover cars, robots doing your ironing? Ridley Scott's Blade Runner put pay to that years ago and everyone has seemed to settle for the future as being a rancid cess pool and ... more often than not, post apocalyptic.
TDR is no exception, the rich decided that they had enough of their smelly neighbours and have all moved out to a very exclusive area of the world, possibly Bournemouth. They have their own police forces and everything is all very nice. However all the scum of the earth who were left behind didn't like this very much so they tried to break in to said posh areas only for the upper class to say "No thank you, I don't buy from my door" and build a huge wall around the ghetto's and drop a nuclear bomb on the poor peoples heads. Nice.
The only way to escape the nastyness now is to race to the death, hence the name Total Destruction Racing 2000.
TDR 2000 has some lovely slick graphics. The cars look great and you can customise them as well to make you feel more at home in your killing machine. There are in-car lights and other nice touches such as parts of your car hanging off when smashed up and even the paint work starts to blacken as you drive through flames. There are animated backgrounds and props such as cranes, lifts, bridges etc and the in-game characters (mostly zombies) wander around the roads just waiting to be run over.
There are several different game modes. 'Free Play' allows you to race 30 races in 9 different environments. 'Campaign' takes you across 25 skill building levels and finally the best part of TDR 2000 is the multiplayer modes, 7 networking games in total. TDR 2000 was basically built up from scratch with Internet gaming in mind. Smash your mates or complete strangers to a pulp in order to survive, with crashes so nasty it will make you cringe.
TDR 2000 is fast, brutal and graphically quite tasty so hop in, buckle up and burn some rubber! Read the complete review |

Need for Speed: Most Wanted (PC)
by Oktavist
I don't think I have played a more exciting and rewarding game than Need For Speed Most Wanted. It's graphics are stunning, the gameplay is awesome, all toped with a plausible story.
The story starts with you having a very powerful car and beating down enemies one at a time, until you qualify to challenge the Black List member number ... 15.I personally got a feeling from the very start that he was going to sabotage my car and wreck it,and possibly take it. Sure enough, that was the case.I felt, from that moment,I had to finish the game and beat him.I didn't get that feeling from other racing games.
The story also presents a number of NPC's,but they don't get along with each other.
At the end you get your vengeance, which felt quite good.
The graphics and movements are surreal, from my point of view.I like how it moves, reacts and plays.
The only thing that I dislike about the game is at it's beginning. When you get to select your car,you don't get to choose many other cars because you don't have the necessary funds. But if the system notices that you had previously installed Need For Speed Underground 2,it will reward you with extra funds. But that only worked a single time for me.
So,yeah.Great game!I finished it 3 times now.I think I will play it for the 4'th time.:D Read the complete review |
