This game has become something of a classic since its release and various updates and add-ons have followed. But really what we have here is a game which is far inferior to such titles as Quake and Unreal which does little to justify the cover price. For those who do not know this game, DN3D is a first person shoot-em-up in the style of doom, where you play Duke who goes around various location shooting, shrinking, stomping etc aliens with a variety of big guns or a heavy boot. 'Come Get Some' says the man as you begin your mission and stagger off using a control system which seems somewhat unfriendly to me. The graphics to this game are ok but not upto todays standards by any means, neither is the sound. There are a few moments which no doubt added to the appeal of the game when it was released such as in one stage of the game you enter a strip club and when not shooting aliens can flash cash at the strippers who then flash their valuables back at you(yawn). In another section you are in a porno theatre and can start the film rolling...things which no doubt had teenage boys wetting themselves with excitement when they got their grubby hands on the game, but surely do not justify the 18 certificate which this game carries with it(especially when you consider the blocky cartoon nature of the graphics). Power-ups and the like can be found in various parts of the game as can extra weapons as usual but none are particularly exciting again by todays standards. This is perhaps a game to borrow...it is playable and quite enjoyable but unlikely to hold you attention in the long-term. One of the most annoying thing I find about the game is the control mechanism, which is quite awkward I feel. Nevertheless, its still a good game, but looking decidely dated now.

- 04/05/01 Didn't find the control annoying myself and personally I found this game supererior to quake in many ways (single player was much, much better in my opinion), good op though. |
