Advantages: Same as the original
Disadvantages: Crappy gameplay no innovation
The sequel to the very excellent Dungeon Keeper. This is very much like the original with enhanced graphics and more gameplay. There are mutiple ways you can play the game and once you have finished the main game you can play the other things such as playing on the internet with friends or with the computer. The point of the game is to be as evil of a dungeon keeper as possible as the name suggests. You have to build and manage your own dungeon and then you might have to defeat the other dungeons in your area or find something. Most of the missions are easy and you can save any where in the level so completing the game should not be a problem. I have to admit this has turned out to be a disappointment from the original. The graphics have improved but they look ugly and dated. If you were looking to play this game you WILL need a graphics as I found out when I got the game. I personally had a Voodoo 3 but I don't think you need one as good as that. There has been no really improvement in the gameplay probably due to the fact it was good enough as it was. The game has plenty of modes such as Skirmish and "my pet dungeon" which has got to be one of the coolest bits of the game because you get to have a really large area all to yourself and you have to build your dungeon and see how long it can last against several waves of attacks. The cool thing is that you can pick the creatures you want and you can make them as powerful as can be. If you wanted to you could beat the heroes up yourself. The other is Skirmish which is basically playing against computer players. Other good points include the fact that they have introduced new traps and rooms. These include such things as a casino and the combat pit for your creatures to battle it out. Also there are more creatures such as the Black Knight and DArk Angels. Also new spells such as making gold. Thank GOd for that as I remember in the first one I had to keep giving Horny
money to keep him happy. The game itself is way to easy with no challenge whatsoever. I would recommend it to people who really love dungeon keeper but the first one is better probably since Peter Molyneux actually worked on it. This one is not made by him so it lacks the innovation of the first one. Get the first one and if you like it buy the second. This game is quite old and probably only requires a 333Mhz processor so if you are thinking of getting it you should not have any problems. Also a good graphics card will help.

- 12/04/01 I liked both DK and DKII, although I had hoped it would have been more of a D&D in reverse, where you as a Dungeon Master had the task of setting up a dungeon that would set tasks for the hero.
DK and DKII were quality programs and very much fun anyway. I don't agree with your entire list of 'average' and 'poor' ratings, though. |
