The number of strategy games on the market is multiplying very fast. Some of them are simply boring or end too quickly. Because of that it is not easy to find a really good game and enjoy it every single time. With Earth 2160 does not matter if you play a few hours every day, once a week or month. Each time you find something new. When I say new I mean for example terrain, number of opponents and their type, difficulties level and so on. The most important and valuable thing of this game is skirmish mode. Thanks that option each game is different and gives you opportunity to challenge yourself against computer's IQ. Each time when changing the difficulties level, opponents behave cleverer. What I Found very valuable in Earth 2160 is that computer is not repeating the same moves all the time or not placing same building in same place. When attacks by land are not successful, computer is trying mixture or attacks from air only.
Game is very fascinating and challenging in the beginning when you are trying to get in to as many resources as only possible and research the most important units needed in this moment. Computer is doing exactly the same and once he finds you- problem and beginning of real war starts. He starts exterminate your mines and exploring terrain for your main civilisation. Computer can build many buildings in the same time and do not need time to think. That is why computer is always stronger at the start. Your role is to keep mining resources, build your defence structures and units and to do researches. Attacks are getting stronger and stronger and once computer breaks you - you fail and get exterminated. You can have other destiny if you are strong enough, determinated to defend all attacks and start attacking him. In such a situation chances to win are equal. It usually depends from amount of resources. That's the most difficult moment- a proper survival I would say.
There is only one little problem with this game. It is when computer blows out of resources and you need to find his every single building and unit. Can happen that resources are gone in the same time for you and him. In this situation there is no point to continue game as his defence is to strong and you can not build new units. Do not like this moment as it is draw for me but I am the one to end this game.
I do love this game and have to admit that did not play such a good game for ages. Graphical 3D environment is very easy browse. It requires about 2-3 games to control all zooming and rotating options. Units when zoomed are looking well detailed. Terrain reacts to explosions and gets lower for example. Type of explosion seems to depend from unit type. It looks wonderful and full of respect in the same time during battle. I love this game and play it when have only time. I own this game for about one year now and am totally satisfied.
I bought it from Amazon.co.uk for £3 as remember. It came in a box together with huge manual with your special user code needed when registering, and box set of two DVD's. One with game and second with soundtracks.
Very interesting is that once you bought you have free access to all new maps, updates and patches.
Earth has multiplayer option but I have never played.
I play this game on my Pentium 3.2 GHz with HT, 128/128 bits graphic card and with 2 GB of RAM. Everything goes smoothly.
Altogether
There are four available fractions in Earth 2160. Each one with different technologies, abilities and units:
- EU - stands for Eurasian Dynasty. After the destruction of the EARTH, the leaders of the Eurasian Dynasty escaped on board an evacuation fleet. Now they are fighting for the survival of the human species. Their base is one large building comprising of smaller variable parts
- LC - means Lunar Corporation. This peace loving Matriarchal society has to fight to find a new base and home after the destruction of the Earth. LC buildings are built one on top of the other, similar to a skyscraper, but with one big difference. They have the ability to defy all the laws of gravity to move quickly to a new location.
- UCS - are United Civilised States. These machines evolved from the UCS battle machines. During the long flight to Mars, the computer decided to kill all human survivors and then initiated a plan to conquer the Solar system with its own mechanical army.
- Aliens - I believe I don't need to explain this one
Economy in this game is based on three resources: water, metal and crystal. Each civilisation requires different combination of them.
There are three available game modes:
- Single player which is characterised with one massive campaign and four smaller for each fraction
- Skirmish mode. This is my most favourite as game never ends. You can play on 10 maps unless downloaded more. Each has different number of enemies and resources. You can choose who your enemies are or leave it to random. Select with how many players and on which level you will play.
- Multiplayer with a total number of 10 individual maps. These modes can be available for up to eight players per match. Earth 2160 has its own EarthNet server with ladder and league support. When playing it is possible to save the game.
In each civilisation each vehicle can be created from modular parts like chassis, armour, engine, boosters, cannons (up to eight cannons), shield generator and modulation of particle weapons and shields. The number of different unit configuration is fantastic.
It is possible to store units inside hangars. That trick allows you to surprise enemy. All abandoning process is very quick.
Another thing which I love in this game is that units can upgrade. It depend how many other units it killed and what was type of them.

Conclusion
That game is wonderful and with pleasure can recommend it to all RTS/real time strategy game fans. I love it and spend a lot of time with it. I do hope that you will fall in love same as me. Game is not expensive and available to buy online. Earth is absolutely worth this money. Quality of graphical environment is very high thus system requirements are quite high too.
