Advantages: yeah - more please
Disadvantages: but is it the end?
This is the fourth in the series of Monkey Island adventure games, written by the LucasArts stable. They have, over time, been the most consistently funny and playable games the PC has produced, so is this the fourth one as good? Yes, it’s even better. Here’s a brief plot: Guybrush, our hero, has arrived back on Melee Island with his wife, the Governor Elaine only to find that she’s been declared dead, and that their house is going to be knocked down. Not only that, but some Aussie guy is buying up all the property and evicting the pirates. So Guybrush has to save the day by solving a serious of curious puzzles that take him from one hilarious setting to another. And hilarious is the word. If you though that laughing out loud at your PC is a sad thing to do then think again – this is funnier than anything you will see on telly all year, or at least until they re-run Fawlty Towers AGAIN! The graphics are sublime, the soundtrack and the speech is as good as anything Hollywood has produced (yes, I’m not joking here) and you really feel part of a big adventure. Okay. So the movement around the Island is fairly restricted by the plot and the number of puzzles you are solving, and some of the puzzles do have fairly obscure solutions, but overall it is a romp from start to finish. If you buy one PC games this year, then this has to be it. The adventure game is dead, long live the adventure game!
