The monkey Island series has been around for some considerable time now. Ron Gilbert invented it some ten years ago that is quite some time in PC games. The fourth one now has just been released by Lucas Arts and shows that they can do it if they try. The somewhat reluctant hero Guybrush Threepwood and his lovely new wife Elaine try to prevent an Aussie Tycoon from buying up the town with the new Mayor Charles LeChuck. Le Chuck has also been in the Monkey Island series since the start and is Guybrush’s old advisory. The story basically revolves around trying to stop the town from being sold off with a number of adventures and puzzles to be sorted along the way. The game has a new engine that makes the game very different from previous. The engine is a 3D engine that gives the game substance and a feeling of being onboard. The interface is excellent and the game is as good as the other Lucas Arts diamond Grim Fandango. The game is full of animation and is almost as much fun to watch as it is to play. Although the early Monkey Island was excellent this takes some beating a must for all games but don’t expect blood and guts.
