Advantages: Huge map, Realistic controls, useful as a training aid

Disadvantages: Monotonous, lacks progression, only appeals to a small market

I'm fairly certain that as Truck simulators go, Euro Truck Simulator Gold is one of the best. With it's huge road map stretching across several countries, with the addition of the UK in the 'Gold' edition it certainly does offer hours of driving, and all of this whilst transporting items such as vegetables or pharmaceuticals the entire length of one of the monotonous motorways of Europe really does capture the essence of a career in Trucking. One must question, however, why this would appeal to anyone but the hardcore truck enthusiasts among us(if there are any). Sure, the graphics are pretty decent; the cabs of each truck are detailed to an impressive degree, and every attempt to capture the essence of European motorways has been made, but does this justify the purchase of this game? In my opinion, no. As a game it lacks depth; completing various orders across the continent, unlocking cities and different products along the way is about as much as this game has to give. As a simulator however, Euro Truck Simulator transforms into a helpful tool for truck drivers in training. With steering wheel and foot pedal compatibility, twinned with the impressively realistic controls, I'm sure that this simulator would provide a degree of help to anyone who wants it, and this title boasts awards such as the EuroTra Safety Award 2008 for it's usefulness as a training aid.

Summary: As simulators go, Euro Truck Simulator ears some kudos, but as an entertaining game, look elsewhere
