Advantages: 2000 License,individual car shapes
Disadvantages: Too many to list, read on
I have to say I had high hopes for this game,it had the 2000 license,EA promised big things with AI and circuits where meant to be accuratly mapped to the centimetre. In fact the game meets none of these requirements and is something that EA is often found doing, that is rushing a game out in time for a new season without any real thought to the final result. I`l start off talking about the AI EA promised. They promised to have an AI which was significantly better than any other game. This AI rather than sticking to a normal racing line had a cone of vision to allow for more realistic racing.Infact this "cone of vision" has backfired on EA as the cars just seem to be all over the track and especially at Spa(Ea Rouge)half the field end up in a multi car smash on the first lap which is very unrealistic and nine times out of ten you get taken out by some wild driving. This proved to me that not alot of testing must have been done on this game as if it had these problems would surely have been erased. Secondly the driving model was meant to give you a realistic feel of how cars drive. In reality it is a completly fictional driving model.Cars swing around corners like they did in the olden days when aerodynamics where not part of racing, its more like driving a go kart than a modern day F1 car that thanks to the introduction of grooved tyres and aerodynamics such as wings has alot of grip and isn`t easy flung around corners like a rally car.People claim that the drivng model is better than GP3 but these are people that enjoy an arcade racer not an out and out simulation which is what GP3 is.The fact is GP3 was tested by leading racing drivers such as Jos Verstappen and Pedro De La Rosa who claimed it to be very lifelike to handle,I didn`t hear of F12000 being tested by any drivers. The graphics are appaling, unless you have a dogs b******s computer you will struggle to run the graphics at any reasonable level.Even a good computer struggles to
run the game. The fact is that the graphical quality is poor. The framerates are slow leading to graphics becoming blurred and out of sort from a distance and even when your upto a few meters of them, things still look poor. EA claimed to have modelled circuits realistically.Well the one corner that absolutly shames this statement is La source at Spa,the first corner. It has alot of run off on the exit of the corner(ie.is quite wide on exit)but on the game it is as tight as the hairpin at Monaco, very unrealistically modelled. This is the case of many of the corners which have had to be remodelled by amaetures just to make them feel half realistic. Right,Ive really ripped EA apart hear for this game but I think my critiscism is just. The game won`t have you addicted for long, after you have got over the initial shock of how poor the graphics are and you`ve played one season you soon get fed up.It lasted me 2 weeks, what a waste of £30 well earned pounds.Give me GP3 anyday, this game may not live up to every ones high expectations but it is much more realistic than this which is no more than an arcade classic game. To be fair to EA I will make a couple of good points on the game. They do have a 2000 license which lets you race on tracks which havn`t been released on other games yet such as Indianapolis and Sepang, and infact Sepang is the best modelled Circuit of them all.It does also bost a impressive thing that all the cars have different car shapes individual to each team which is realistic as all the F1 teams have different looking carshapes. But in true honesty this has all been done for gp3 since its release thanks to sites such as www.alphaf1.com/gp3.You can download all the circuits and carshapes from there for gp3 so in fact F12000 now doesn`t really have any advantages over what it claimed it could beat this year gp3. Also don`t be fooled by this supposed add-on they are bringing out for F12000.Which in fact isn`t an add-onn is a who
le new game but basically is exactly the same as the old one with a few minor adjustments. No new ciruits, cars nothing. If you ask me EA should stick to what they do best Football games and leave the driving game market alone to games makers who actually know how to make a decent, realistic F1 sim.

- 15/12/00 Thanks hugon,Yeh I hear the playstation version is even worse than the PC version so it must be really bad!The Playstation version of the new F1 Championship season 2000 released as an updated version of F2000 is meant to be just as bad as the original f12000.EA Sports just don`t learn. |
