Advantages: realistic fire fights, extremely scary

Disadvantages: hard to complete on most difficulties

YOU are a member of the First Encounter Assault Recon (FEAR) and your first mission after recruitment is to take down a certain Paxton Fetal who can telepatchically commande an army of clone soldiers. Why you? Well its because your Matrix-like reflexs make you a deadly weapon against the clone army! But during the game you are alone and since this is a tactical shooter you will have to use everything to your advantage. Running in guns blazing will get you killed 90% of the time, even if there are only a couple soldiers. These are some smart clone soldiers you will be fighting as well with an amazing AI. They will flank you, rush you, flush you out of cover with gernades, and try to kill you any possible way they can. The only advantage you have over them is your reflexs. Which translates into slowing down time so you can react significantly faster than your foes. This is the core of the gameplay, of course new things are introduced, tactical weapons, mines and gernades, tank-like enemiges, ect.

Now the best part of FEAR, the scary parts of course! This is by far one of THE scariest games every made stacking up even to The Suffering: Ties That Bind. Friends vaporized into a red mist, fiery explosions, vivid hallucinations that progressivly become more and more REAL. But my lifeless prose can't fully describe the sheer terror of playing this game. The fire fights can get pretty scary too because of the destruction and chaos they cause. The bullets in this game seem very real when they punch a hole through the wall behind you and send plaster everywhere. After a while you won't even be able to see due to plaster dust and such floating through the air. You can even blow enemies into a fine red mist if you sneak up on them. Another neat weapon, The Penetrator, will nail your foes to walls with huge metal spikes. Although the game is linear and very scripted (enemies are always in the same places), once you engage in combat anything could happen! The clones will communicate as well telling each other to flank, rush, advance (all of which are audible to you). The realistic sound of guns and bullets whizzing past is all around you, blood drenchs the walls. Pictures, planters, and all other meaningless objects are shattered violently or flung out of the way. The clones scream in agony as limbs fly! The combat in this game is just plain amazing! This is one of the best FPS ever made, we just have to hope that the sequel is just as good!

Summary: A must have for any shooter fan, as in buy it NOW
