Advantages: More Fallout- what's not to like?
Disadvantages: Atmosphere is broken perhaps a bit too often
Fallout 1 was a revelation for the RPG world. A believable futuristic world, with in game parodies of pop culture, ultra violence and realistic characters.
Fallout 2 continues some seventy years from when part one left off. It still uses the Infinity engine which many people may gripe about, so there aren't hundreds of different character models, but this game does not need that. It has atmosphere, a superb plot and strong characterisation.
Part two expands on part one extremely well. More guns, more companions, new locations, villains and characters, as well as the odd returning favourite.
The game world is absolutely massive compared to the original, and it will happily eat up hours of your time as you investigate side quests and tinker with your character's attributes (and you should definately experiment a bit instead of just making an all rounder).
Perhaps the only negative is that the atmosphere and plot is not quite up to the standard of the original. New Reno can strike the player as a bit unbelievable, stuck out there in the wastelands. Similarly, some of the random encounters may break the mood a bit too much for some. Yet, overall, it is well worth a purchase, if only to see just why so many people were disappointed with Fallout 3.
Summary: An essential piece of gaming history
