Advantages: Fun, Inventive, Great combat system, Great Atmosphere
Disadvantages: Location finding awkward at times, Main quest too short.
I loved Fallout 1 and 2 back in the day and I was very excited to get my hands on a copy of this well anticipated game.
In a way I was not disappointed with the overall turnout of the game but there were a few things that bugged me as I progressed.
The game starts you off as a little kid and you can go through a series of tests to be given a more realistic way of setting up your character, I preferred to assign my own points to any given stats.
Not to give anything away but eventually you leave the vault and are presented with a massive post nuclear Washington DC, of which you can have pretty much free roam of, sometimes a little too much, meaning that you spend hours just walking around hoping to find something of interest.
The graphics are ok but nothing incredible but I think that is mainly due to the post nuclear setting and not the ability of the graphical animators or background artists. On a good note I do feel they have still kept the same dark atmosphere that was present in the first 2.
The experience points system is there along with the lovely good or evil scale, which will effect how people react to you and also at times put your morals to the test.
Another system which I finds works very well is the combat style, you can switch with a press of a key between frozen time and aim at specific body part (Which then gives you a lovely out of body slow motion shot following the bullet) or a real time just shoot away at the enemy.
Weapons in the game seem endless and also with the ability to create make shift weapons that do all kinds of crazy and destructive things, things can get quiet fun. I just wish that the environment was even just a little bit destructible, to give you more of a feel that you truly are holding a very powerful weapon and not just leave small scorch marks.
The only problem I had with this game was that the main quest felt to short and rushed and that it is easy to miss out on alot of locations spread all around the map unless you spend a good deal of time navigating the sometimes bewildering landscape looking for new locations.
I know now that there is downloadable content which extends the game but I don't see the point in this, as you have to go back and play the game again from the start to use most of the content.
Why not just wait a while longer and develop a complete and large scale game and all in one go.
Overall this is a fun and good game but unless you like randomly exploring slightly bland location for several hours then the game will be over all to quick.
Summary: Overall a good game and enjoyable, I only wished it lasted longer.

- 14/11/09 I stand corrected. I just wish they had finished the game first time around and not needed the DLC.
The ended to the game was not so good. |

- 12/11/09 You don't have to start the game from scratch to play the DLC at all. |
