Family Fortunes

When I normally write opinions, I will give you a lot of features, disadvantages, and advantages. This game however is going to receive a very poor opinion by me.

Oh dear. There are just certain TV quiz shows that shouldn’t come out on PC. Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is a huge hit and has done very well on PC. The Weakest Link wasn’t that successful. Why would Family Fortunes do well?!

At the start, you are presented with Backstage, and create your family. With create your family, it does exactly what it says. With this, you decide the name of the family, where they are from, the character names, and the family personality adjectives. All of these are limited to ones provided by the computer apart from the family name.

You can edit each character by changing the features of the face of the person. These are strange and nothing looks good and when you randomise it, it looks strange and you will probably end up with an alien.

You can alter the spelling accuracy of the game. This means if you are poor at spelling, the spelling doesn’t have to be 100% in order for it to count. This is good for dyslexics, but sometimes you can enter something so obscure it comes up as a correct answer even though you didn’t mean it. You can change the time limits of the final round and each answer, and you can change the difficulty level.

Now we come to the game. When the families are introduced, when whoever that man is that introduces everyone says the adjectives you have put down, the audience cracks up like an American comedy. It really does sound so atrocious, and they sometimes laugh before you are introduced.

The host regularly appears, and it must take about three minutes before you are irritated to death of him.

However, there are 1600 surveys, and this does provide quite a long longevity for the game. Having said that though, you may only play it once because it is so poor.

The visuals on the game are not that bad, though. The design of the studio looks modern, and the writing is clear and concise. The sounds however are poor, as I mentioned earlier, and it can be better having the sound off.

Those people who like Family Fortunes may see this as a worthwhile game. However, to me, everyone is irritating, and the game is slow to play.
