Advantages: Best management game out, regens have been fixed, highly addictive gameplay

Disadvantages: 3D engine is appaulingly done, the long arrows in tactics are needesly gone.

Football manager 2009, or by fans.. called fm09, is probably the best game in the series and funnily enough im in my 3rd season in window mode as aston villa typing this review.

I'll start off saying that if you didnt like any of the football managers before, you wont like this one, the core game is still the same as any other football manager game in the series, but with some major fixes and improvements on the core game of football manager this is easily the best football manager yet by SI interactive.

One of the major things to be fixed are regens, the thing that made me stop playing football manager 2008 alltogether with it being so terrible, regens are the new players that are put into the game after a season ends and new one begins, making the game everending, in football manager 2008 the regen system was absoultly appualing and there wasnt any wonderkids about, you couldnt build an amazing youth team because no regen was any good enough and in the end you ended up with basically... shit players in the game.
Thankfully its been fixed and i can now happily say i have 2 of the best regen central defenders potential wise who are only a tender age of 17 in my 2011 season and look to be world class, atleast thats what my scout says.

Moving onto tactics, one of the things i wasnt pleased about was the removal of longer arrows, i can no longer play a proper 4-3-3 where the 3 players upfront all join in a central attack in the way i want, i could put all 3 upfront.. but that causes a major gap and i just get batterd ingame, but the tactics in fm09 is still top drawer and you can realy make some great formations to your style of play.

The AI is also a lot harder, particually with the tactic side, they try and counter your tactics a lot better and cancel you out, its defiantly more of a challenge this year, by a hell of a long way.

One of the things that is brand new is the 3d engine, now when ingame and playing a match instead of the normal 2d view you can see your players in 3d now, you might be thinking this is quite awesome, unfourtuantly its not, i personally feel the 3d engine is dreadful, although major props to the developers for trying it, its just dreadful in my opinion, the dead animations and the clunkiness, the whole feel of it is just woeful, i stick to the 2d view with a little bit of imagination.

Overall i reccomend this game if your into management games, especially to do with football.

Summary: Although with faults, still the best football manager in the series. (9.03 patched)
