A great simulation that rewards patience and planning

Full Spectrum Warrior is a game based on a U.S. military training simulation. In short, it is designed to be a realistic experience. It will test your ability to multi-task rather than how quick your trigger finger is. You will take control of up to three squads at one time which can be pretty disorienting. The game takes place in a fictional country where you (army rangers) must help diffuse an international situation. The narrative is not one of the games strong points. I felt it was the gameplay that kept me coming back.

You will not be in 'direct control' over the movement of your squad. In other words you will be pointing and clicking where you would like your squad to end up. To make this a simulation there is a reaction time associated with each order you give. This means that you cannot afford mistakes. Thankfully, it is easy to give your squads different commands. There is a lot of depth to the tactics but there is a very useful tutorial at the start of the game.

If you are a fan of realistic games then you will more than likely enjoy Full Spectrum Warrior. It's methodical pace creates huge tension and you will be on edge until the completion of your mission.

Wouldn't bother, move on to Battlefield

Having played a few military games by the time I got to Full Spectrum Warrior I had become sick of games with poor AI, the lack of challenge is quite annoying and makes games boring.

I was hoping for good AI with Full Spectrum Warrior but it was not to be. Often you will end up with a stalemate where neither your troops nor the enemy troops will press forward but will engage in pointless bullet shower battles so the rest is left to you. There's also some rather unfair elements in the game. Enemies can shoot from buildings but you cannot even enter buildings that are not part of your mission. At least on the standard difficulty setting the game is far too easy and having completed it I felt no sense of accomplishment whatsoever.

All in all the game was just something to waste my time on as opposed to something I could enjoy. The graphics are fairly good or at least they were at the time but the gameplay is poor.
