Advantages: best f1 game
Disadvantages: not as good as hoped
I can still vividly remember the excitement when the release date of this game's predecessor (unsuprisingly named GP2) approached and the disappointment each time the momentus day in the history of civilisation was postponed. When I eventually got my hands on the game it was definitely worth the wait. I had never played the original GP game by Geoff Crammond as my dad's 286 didn't have the memory to cope. When he finally got a new computer at first I had to make do with Indycar games. I was becoming dizzy from the endless circling of ovals when I learnt of GP2. From the previews I had seen of the game it looked absolutely stunning (the driver's heads actually moved) but unbelievably the game played better than it looked. Never mind that it was a recreation of F1s darkest season, 1994, and that most of the tracks had since undergone major safety revisions. I was so much in love with the game that I even attempted to play a full distance season (I gave up when I lost out on the championship). I was expecting the same kind of revolution when I got my hands on GP3. First impressions were pretty good. The graphics were nice, but not ground breaking. Those of you out there with the latest processors should get the best out of it but I had to tone down the options slightly. It was when I started to play the game that my disappointment kicked in - it felt just like GP2. There may now have been a much more complicated physics engine but I was expecting something amazing. I was happy that my favourite features were still there, suchas the hot seat mode which means that you and a friend can race by taking turns at the wheel while the CPU drives the other car. The inclusion of weather was one feature which did thrill me. The weather can change during a race affecting your strategy. This time the game didn't grip me enough to attempt a full season. This may have been partly due to the
fact that the season data is old although an update disc has recently been released. GP3 is a great game which I still go back to occasionally but, whilst it is still the best f1 title, I found it slightly disappointing.

defiler - 16/10/01 I agree with the other comments, a good start but a bit lacking in detail later on. Let me know if you update and I'll come back to reread and rerate. |
