Advantages: Great graphics, brilliant artificial intelligence, great race views, rewarding feeling when a race has been won!
Disadvantages: Game is 3 years old, very easy to crash
GP500 is one of the best ever action simulations of a motorcycling race I have played for a long time. If you have read my reviews on other motorcycling and racing games, you will probably know that I can spot a good F1 or motorcycling game when I see one! Firstly, you can take part in the full 1998 Grand Prix 500 season, from Australia to Asia, Europe and South America, the tracks are all there. A variety of views during gameplay can be taken up including playing the game via the eyes of the motorcyclist on his bike. Another nice touch allows the player to look around whilst on track on the bike, allowing you to see if it is safe to move to your left or right where an opponent may lurk! Flawless location graphics: the stands, the advertising signs, the buildings and the changeable weather which includes, sun, rain, cloud / dull and overcast conditions. Once a race has been completed you can replay all the action using the replay facilities, 5 camera angles and TV style replay which includes commentary from the cable TV channel Eurosport. Two modes are available for you to play including the full simulation with all the rules from the season or arcade mode which allows you to modify the rules of flag and penalties. Setups for the motorcycles allow you to customise your bike to get the most out of a race weekend. Change engine configuration, gear changing points, tyre selection and a lot more. The LAN feature allows you to compete with up to 8 or more players either via a local area network or over the internet. Overall, this is another great racing game which requires some time to master but after you have got the upper hand the rewarding feeling that you will get when you win your first race is a pleasure to experience! The game will keep you occupied for a long time if you like this sort of genre.
