Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: Could be more interaction i.e. ability to go into more buildings
This is where the GTA series in its current form began.
Your character, Claude, accompanied by his girlfriend Catalina and a friend robs Liberty City Bank. Unfortunately whilst escaping Catalina turns on you both shooting your character and leaving with the money. You get caught by the police and are sentenced to jail. Luckily for you during the transfer the vehicle is attacked with the kidnap of another individual in mind, here you manage to escape. You then have to work for different groups i.e. the Mafia, the Yakuza etc. to get the attention of Catalina.
Not only are there many main storyline missions, there are plenty of side missions to keep you occupied. There are also other activities such as acting as a taxi driver, ambulance driver, vigilante and fire fighter. The music on the car radio station is in keeping with the gameplay. The worry with ports is largely the controls and I can't fault the GTA III pc controls at all. The storyline is interesting as are all of the missions. The map is extensive but not so large that it takes you days to become accustomed to it and there's plenty of hours of play. There's a fair chunk of replay value especially because of the activities listed above.
Although subsequent GTA games have for the most part improved on GTA III, in my opinion GTA III is still a 5/5.
I am also a member of Ciao and have posted this review there.
Summary: Fantastic game, a must buy, worth the full price of £30
