I love th eGTA franchise, but to be honest i was disappointed by this fourth instalment.

don't get me wrong: it has many good attributes. first and foremost, the graphics are sensational. they are often photo realistic, especially at dusk when the sunset light filters on to the brick buildings. the music is also true to the rockstar form with something for everyone. and the ability to change radio station whilst in the car has been retained, which is nice.

however, there was so much hype surrounding its release, that i think many people forgot to question the gameplay. to my mind it has lost the free spirit of its predecessors and become more linear. sure, you can still do side missions, attack passers by for bo reason, and shoot more police men than you can count. but the central mission is just irritating. the hero is a mono syllabic eastern-european cliche.

it's just lost its edge.

Summary: Not as good as GTA 3
