Advantages: free online play, great community
Disadvantages: leveling system
This is one of my favorite MMORPGs on the PC, although it is quite basic compared to World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy.
I started playing this game a couple of years ago, but there are still new players starting the game everyday. The community is very helpful. I know that I will log on and help out the lower level characters complete quests.
The economy is fun in this game as well. There are a lot of players selling and trading goods. You can get very good weapons and materials to craft armor this way.
Speaking of crafting armor, this is a very interesting aspect to the game. You can not "buy" armor, you have to buy or find raw materials and find a crafter to "make" your armor for you. It is customized and can not be worn by any other characters. This is much better than just buying it because you have to kill enemies that drop the materials to make your armor.
The story line is interesting, and has good ingame movies. There a lot of quests along with the story line, so there are many hours of gameplay here.
My only problem with this game is the leveling system. They have a cap at level 20, which makes it pointless to level up anywhere past that. And the worst part is, the final boss is either level 25 or 30. Does that make sense to anyone? How can you not have an option to be strong than a boss?
Overall, this is a really great game. The online gameplay is free, so what do you have to lose? This game is very cheap now, and a good way to get into the Guild Wars series.

- 21/01/09 The final boss makes sense - in order to defeat it you have to group with other players to make the greater numbers count against its overall strength. |
