Advantages: Good storyline, great voice acting.

Disadvantages: Lack of content and last-ability to the game.

During the height of the GTA San Andreas success the computer company Neversoft in association with Activision decided to release their own free roaming genre based game. The result of which was "Gun" a Wild West adventure set in the 1880's.
The game was released on the Xbox, Xbox 360, Game Cube, Playstation 2, PC and then later for the PSP under the Title "Gun : Showdown" I personally have got this game on both the Playstation 2 and also for my PC, What can I say it was cheap when I bought the PC version.

The story centres itself around the main character "Colton White" voiced by actor Thomas Jane best known for his role as the Punisher in the 2004 film by the same name. The action starts out with Colton going through a form of tutorial section which explains the main controls of the game, during this section we are introduced not only to the game controls but also one of the biggest influences in the progression of the game plot in the form of Ned White voiced by Kris Kristofferson, the famous singer/songwriter turned actor best known for his role of Whistler in the film series Blade.

The game basic plot line is one of revenge, after Ned is killed by a group of the renegade soldiers during a raid on the steamboat that he and Colton are on. Colton then sets about travelling around the area in search of the people responsible and brings them to his own kind of justice, which usually means they end up as dead as a door nail.

Graphically at the time this game was released it was very good, unfortunately now the game is showing its age a bit, but since it was originally released in 2005 at which time most of the other games of this style had graphics equal if not worse than this I certainly feel that it cannot be really faulted upon this point.

The games sound is fantastic with a great cast of voice actors and actress' including Ron Perlman (of Hellboy fame) as Mayor Hoodoo Brown, Brad Dourif (Grima Wormtounge from the Lord of the Rings) as Reverend Josiah Reed, and Lance Henriksen (Bishop from the Alien film series) as the games main bad guy Thomas Magruder.

Similar to the GTA series of games Gun allows you to complete missions and side missions in a non linear style. Unfortunately the game does not have the same type of length content wise as any other games that I have played in this genre, and certainly once you have completed the main storyline there is very little extra to actual do in addition.

Overall the game has some very good ideas in it however the lack of content and slightly awkward controls really doesn't keep you coming back for more.

Summary: Strap on your irons and saddle your horse
