He finally agrees, so Alyx and Gordon make their way into the Citadel, with the help of Dog. Can they succeed in doing what they intend? The story may lack the depth of the plot in the original Half-Life, but is good overall. Half Life 2, Episode One - The Thrilling Aftermath Of Half Life 2 Intro ~~~~ I am currently reviewing all of my favourite PC games focusing on First Person Shooters at the moment. I am reviewing the Half Life series so far (having already reviewed 'Half Life', and 'Half Life 2') so to follow on from this I have moved onto review the thrilling sequel to Half Life 2 = Half Life 2 Episode One. This game follows on the story from the end of the last game leaving Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance in the citadel of city 17 (or shall I say what's left of it) I am not going to mention too much detail on story cause it will ruin it for the player and if you ...  Read the complete review

(This review will contain spoilers for those who have not played/completed Half-Life 2) You almost certainly got to the cliffhanger ending of Half-Life 2 and thought 'is that it? Great, I'm going to have to wait another six years for Half-Life 3 to come out to see what happens'. Good news: a proper sequel to Half-Life 2 won't be released for a while, but instead a trilogy of episodes (or expansions) for Half-Life 2 are being released. Episode One was released in 2006, two years after HL2 came out. This continues the HL2 story arc, revealing the fates of Gordon and Alyx. So, is it any good? Here's your answer: it isn't as good as Half-Life 2, but is still ...  Read the complete review

Ep. 1, the weakest link (242 words)

A continuation of the hugely popular half life 2 franchise. Episode 1 takes up the story from the ruins of the citadel at the end of half life 2. Graphics: Half life 2 is known for depicting landscapes with gritty realism, and episode 1 is a more polished, more textures/shadows/lighting than its predecessor. Sadly the first few hours of the game are spent underground, with only a torch to light your way and severely restricting your viewpoint. Gameplay: Can be described as a welcome return to Gordon Freeman's world. There is little new here in terms of weapons or enemies (zombines being a notable exception). Alyx takes a much more active role than ...  Read the complete review

Half-Life 2: Aftermath / Episode One (PC): Half life 2 : episode 1 (232 words)

Half life 2 : episode 1 is the start of valve's plans to create episodic content for their much loved story as opposed to making fans wait longer for a full game to come out. Episode 1 starts after the explosion of the citadel where you find yourself with Alyx and Dog in the wreckage of the once mighty monolith. The game then involves you first trying to temporarily shut down the gapping chasm where the monolith once stood and then legging it out of the city as fast as your mute legs can carry you. At times this game did feel like valves way of showing off their fancy new AI in the form of Alyx tagging along with you almost everywhere. She battles ...  Read the complete review
