Crowned Review Half-Life 2: Aftermath / Episode One (PC): The Thrilling continuation of a masterpiece game (1356 words)

Half Life 2, Episode One - The Thrilling Aftermath Of Half Life 2 Intro ~~~~ I am currently reviewing all of my favourite PC games focusing on First Person Shooters at the moment. I am reviewing the Half Life series so far (having already reviewed 'Half Life', and 'Half Life 2') so to follow on from this I have moved onto review the thrilling sequel to Half Life 2 = Half Life 2 Episode One. This game follows on the story from the end of the last game leaving Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance in the citadel of city 17 (or shall I say what's left of it) I am not going to mention too much detail on story cause it will ruin it for the player and if you ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Half-Life 2: Aftermath / Episode One (PC): Ep. 1, the weakest link (242 words)
by - written on 04/11/08 (Very useful, 23 readings)
Rating:

A continuation of the hugely popular half life 2 franchise. Episode 1 takes up the story from the ruins of the citadel at the end of half life 2. Graphics: Half life 2 is known for depicting landscapes with gritty realism, and episode 1 is a more polished, more textures/shadows/lighting than its predecessor. Sadly the first few hours of the game are spent underground, with only a torch to light your way and severely restricting your viewpoint. Gameplay: Can be described as a welcome return to Gordon Freeman's world. There is little new here in terms of weapons or enemies (zombines being a notable exception). Alyx takes a much more active role than ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Its Half Life. Of course its great. (219 words)
by - written on 26/06/09 (Useful, 7 readings)
Rating:

Half Life 2: Episode 1 is the first in a planned trilogy of episodic expansions of the hugely popular and critically acclaimed Half Life 2. Picking up where Half Life 2 left off, the game designers seem to have left themselves in a bit of a pickle story wise, with the main characters frozen right in front of an exploding nuclear reactor. Cue completely random deus ex machinima to rescue our hero and his companions so that the player can carry on shooting zombies and jumping around on see-saws. After this initial hiccup, there is not much reference to the story. There is something going on about having to delay another explosion and escape the city, but the ...  Read the complete review
