Advantages: Many hours of gameplay, Especially in Team Fortress 2
Disadvantages: Portal is a bit too short, but it was only displaying the potential of this type of gameplay
This is a must have for every gamer, for someone who had never played any half life before i bought the orange box going only by good reviews. And i was not dissapointed either. Ibought this game for £35 at game only to see that next week it was on offer at £17 i think. Anyway i would have hapily parted with £50 because inside are 5 great games: Half life 2 (Hl2), HL2 Episode 1, Hl2 Episode 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2. All of these games are great however i have not got round to Hl2 Ep2.
--Half Life2--
This game follows on from half life 1 with the main character gordon freeman trying to escape from city 17. Gameplay is pleasing with the weapons not feeling too light or heavy for the character. The difficulty level at first may seem very easy but it get more difficult as the game moves on. You move through the game shooting scary creatures and enemys. This game is the legendary First person Shooter that is famous among Pc Gamers.
--Half Life 2 Episode 1 and 2--
Episode one follows on from Half life 2 in the same style gameplay (shooting) and the game ends up with Gordon freeman escaping from city 17. Episode 2 although i have not played it is a game set in the countryside with drving/shooting packed in. This is a game where you can unlock achievements on Steam. Once you have unlocked the achievements though you get nothing apart from a sense of completion.
--Portal--
This game is short although im not the best at puzzle games so it has taken me hours to complete. The aim of the game is to complete each level using portals which you make with your portal gun. You can only have 2 portals at the same time and they are in 2 different colours; orange and blue. The blue portal leads to orange and orange to blue. This type of gameplay is very easy to pick up, however in later levels you need to have fast refelxes in order to move between portal to portal to complete a puzzle. As well as the main story you can play challenges which is basically completing puzzle in a certain amount of time. This game also has achievements to unlock via steam.
--Team Fortress 2--
This has to be the best game ive played ever. Team fortress 2 is basically an online shooter where you play against other people online. Gameplay is a team based affair one team is the red team another is blue and they compete against each other in a variety of maps. 2 Styles of gameplay are Capture the flag and another where one team defends control points while the other team tries to capture them. There is 7 Official maps and tons of custom maps. This is a class based online shooter and there is 9 classes to choose from each having their own special abilitys/weapons.
I will go through them all briefly:
Sniper - The team basically relies on the snipers skill to kill the opposing team members from a distance. The sniper is equiped with a Sniper rifle, a mini automatic gun and a machete for close combat fights.
Pyro - A fun class to be, you have a flamethrower and can set enemy players on fire. The Pyro ahs a flamethrower, shotgun and a firemans axe.
Heavy - A big meathead with a massive railgun, you can kill other classes with ease as you fire out multiple bullets at same time. The heavy has a Massive railgun, a shotgun and his fists.
Engineer - As an engineer your team relies on you to set up a sentry gun to kill nemy team members, you also can build dispenser to heal wounded teammates as well as teleports to teleport them to the front line.
Scout - This class is best used in capture the flag games as he can run faster than all the other classes and also perfrom double jumps. The scouts scatetrgun is effective at close quarters.
Demoman - This class can fire sticky bombs which will stick to almost any surface and can be detonated at the click on a button to kill unsuspecting enemys.
Soldier - This guy is equipepd with a rocket launcher and can kill enemys at a distance with it. He also have a shotgun and a spade.
This game in my opinion is better than counter strike source if any of you guys have that game you will know you cant respawn until the end of a match. However in Team fortress 2 you just wait up to 15 seconds and you've respawned ready to own people. Valve are making updates for team fortress 2 at the moment, including new maps and a new weapons fopr classes. If you have team fortress 2 and want to add me on steam for a fight or something then just message me or add me because my steamid is same as my dooyoo.co.uk username.
--System Requirements--
The minimum requirements you need to run this game are:
Windows xp or vista
1.7ghz processor
512mb ram
Graphics card with 128mb of ram and directx 8
However id recommend this:
2 Ghz dual core processor
1 Gb ram or 2Gb if your running Vista
Graphics card with 256mb or more memory and Directx 9 capable
Or This graphics card is the one i use: members.dooyoo.co.uk/graphic-cards/xfx-geforce-860 0-gt-xxx-version
This card enables you to play the latest games or Team Fortress 2 on maximum settings
--Summary--
Buy the orange box if you like shooting games or like to play online against real people. You really dont need the best pc in the world to play any of these games however you do need an internet connection to play team fortress 2. I hope i helped in your decision to buy this game, thanks.
Summary: You must buy this if you own a pc, Team fortress is the best online shooter ive played

- 14/02/08 When it says 5 in 1 it means 5 separate games. you load them up separately via steam. |

- 13/02/08 I STILL don't get this game...I mean 5 in 1? Are they all sequals or what? It sounds terrible to me and annoys me that it's so weird.. I never played half life anyway, so forget this game.. Good review though

- 13/02/08 Wait until you get to the end Episode 2. There's a sequence near the end involving striders, a motor car and sticky bombs that is possibly the finest moment of any game I've yet to witness. Makes owning The Orange Box worthwhile just for that segment! |
