... and after your transport craft crash lands you are forced to make your own way through the facility, even bumping into Freeman on the odd occasion throughout your travels. The original game made heavy use of NPCs (none player characters) with whom you could interact and, in the case of security guards, fight alongside, and Opposing Force builds on this by requiring you to work as part of a squad alongside medics, grunts and engineers, who allow you to reach new areas by cutting their way through otherwise impen...more

Premium Review Half-Life - Opposing Force (PC): The best expansion for Half-Life. (504 words)

Rating:

Released in 2000, Opposing force is the first and arguably best expansion pack to massively important first-person shooter, Half-Life. For those unfamiliar with the game, you might want to check out a review of it by yours truly: http://members.dooyoo.co.uk/pc-game/half-life/1208092/ The player assumes the role of Corporal Shephard, a member of the Hazardous Environment Combat Unit, sent into the Black Mesa Facility in a desperate government bid to silence the Black Mesa Incident by killing everyone associated with the project, and dispatching the new alien threat. Opposing Force adds a whole new dimension to the game in the way of ...  Read the complete review

This will definatly Half- your life (161 words)

.The game is a bit short though but it is a still a best buy. There are other half life games but this is the best in my opinion We waited with baited breathe for half life two and this is what we got. Its not bad its just not long enough - sure two players is good and they added new features like climbing ropes and night goggles - but its just too damn short. The game takes place at the same time as half life but this time your a soldier whos helicoptor is downed by one of the aliens. You need to escape from the complex. Seeing you are a soldier you get some new weapons not in the first half life and best of all no planet xen. You also get to ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Half-Life - Opposing Force (PC): Something for the weekend (531 words)
by - written on 22/04/01 (Very useful, 42 readings)

Finally something arrives to add to the single-player experience of Half-Life. It runs alongside the main story of HL but this time it is from the viewpoint of one of the soldiers called Adrian Shephard. You and your squad are sent in to deal with the chaos that has been released in the Black Mesa Research facility. However your plane crashes and you find yourself cut off from the rest of your miltary chums only to find that someone has other plans for you... Nothing has really changed. Its basically stil Half-Life. It plays the same. Its just as scary and atmospheric. Even though you are now you are used to the tricks (like headcrabs jumping out of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review What an add-on, eh!!! (204 words)

Well I'm a big fan of half-life so I decided to purchase this add-on pack. What a deal! I had played the demo and I was really amazed by the hard work put into this game. The story is based around a corpral who finds himself stranded, alone in the black mesa research facility. His aim... To aliminate Gorden Freeman (This is the hero you play in the first half-life) Along the way you encounter other officers from the army. These can help you uncover what really is going on, information on the enemy, this can help you complete each mission as you play through each level. Your not just shooting aliens by the way, hot on your tail are the best assassins ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Half-Life - Opposing Force (PC): Smashing classic game! (195 words)
by - written on 28/09/00 (Very useful, 30 readings)

I bought this expansion pack as soon as I could, which meant a three mile walk to the nearest shop with it in stalk, I was so eager. I had been a while in buying the original but that was enough to get me hooked! This game, to the cynic, offers nothing new. More walking around shooting aliens etc. But what i tdoes add is a tremendous storyline. This time you take the role of a grunt instead of a weedy scientist. Additionally, you can climb ropes - now that sounds great but once you've climbed one rope you've climbed them all! It does, however, allow you to take control of a small team of fellow grunts'n'medics and such like which might not be ...  Read the complete review

Return of a well-loved series; some great puzzles and decent jokes. Some rubbish jokes too; short.

good multiplayer No real good story line to the game
