Advantages: good fun, lots of explosions

Disadvantages: the same as half-life

Half-life is a great game, and so is opposing force. The two are essentially the same game. I bought it recently for the sake of completeness, and I wasn't disappointed.

The software mode kept causing my computer to crash, but in D3D, everything worked fine.

There isn't a lot to say about this that hasn't been said about half-life. Nice intro to begin with, great set pieces, and the dialog of the other soldiers had my sides splitting (but I don't think it was supposed to be funny). The drill sergeant’s yelling was one of the comedy moments second only to "don't let it overcharge".

I play the game in a different style to most people. I sneak around the game, shooting people in the arm from around the corner etc. Unfortunately, using this way looses some of the magic, as you’re not jumped on from behind (you threw a grenade over there just in case and BOOM no nasty surprise)

The game play is the same, a few new enemies, weapons etc, but nothing jaw dropping.

If you didn't think half-life was anything special, then your money is better spent elsewhere. If you enjoyed half-life, you'll like this, just don’t expect anything new.

***UPDATE***
Hmm…
It would appear that I underestimated this game. The reason I have changed my mind is because I have gotten far enough to see some of the good bits. E.g. remember in Half-life when you had to hold off the flying beasties so you could use the teleporter?

Well, you get there just in time to watch freeman jump into it (if you follow, you die though DOH!) This had me laying metaphorical eggs as I was not half as well equipped to enter Zen (the alien dimension) this time as I was before. Well… no I won’t tell you what happens, because then you won’t buy the game ;)

It may be obvious, but I am now far more enthusiastic about this game than I was when I first reviewed it. If a
nyone out there thinks the game is disappointing, just stick at it and I’m sure you will change your mind.
