Advantages: really good story line/gameplay which makes up for poor graphics

Disadvantages: poor graphics by todays standard. better love grey

Half life was my first major first person shooter game. and it was brilliant. not only was the story line gripping and interesting but it also intrigued you pushing you that one step futher into the game and stopping you from quitting

the story line of half life (spoilers) is you play gordan freeman a research scientist in black mesa who initiates the alien invasion from xen to black mesa. he survives the experiment. and all hell breaks lose. the army comes along and has to stop the alien invasion but also decides to kill the civiliens inside the complex including dr freeman. during this escapade a man in a grey suit shows up clutching a briefcase. this is unvieled later on to be a man known in the community as g-man. as he looks like an FBI agent. this all leads to the explosive conclusion in the battle of xen

the multiplayer mods are also deffinatly worth it. can get it cheaper on steam though
