Advantages: Awesome graphics, ability to tell a story without ever stopping gameplay, builds suspense like no one's business, some of the coolest level and creature designs I've ever seen

Disadvantages: : Not enough human designs(I think there's 3), too many jump-jump-jump sections=too many falls to your death, ending just plain old sucks

How can I put this simply? This game is amazing. If you've ever enjoyed a video game before, you'll love this game. It starts out with a normal tran ride. Turns out you're late for work. The gameplay begins simply enough with you just making your way around a complex as a highly-recognized scientist. You don't have a weapon. It's just a normal day at work. I found this odd at first, but it's a very inventive idea. Most FPS pick up the action right away. But it doesn't take long before you and your fellow egg-headed geeks perform an experiment that apparently opens a wormhole of sorts to another world! Work your way up the weapon ranks, starting with a crowbar and ending with a guided missile launcher and the hand of a blown up alien that fires these weird spectral thingies that'll chase your enemies. It rocks.
The way that Valve tells a detailed and well thought out story in Half Life is amazing. Characters talk, move, and interact with the environment. The enemy A.I. on the soldiers is so amazing, that they will actually trap you with grenades or explosives. It sucks, but once you're dead you'll sit back and say "Whoa. That kicked ass...."
