Advantages: Intelligent enemies, good vehicles

Disadvantages: Too built up

Halo 2. The game that would end all games. I'm gonna get blasted to pieces for saying this, but: What a disappointment.

I should make it clear right now that i'm not some kind of Halo hater, nor am I a Halo fanboy. I'm someone that heard all the hype, and was totally disappointed with the game because people had built it up so much from me.

I'll start with the good of the game.

The AI isn't perfect, but it's much improved from Halo 1. Enemies will actually react to you a lot better, and work far better in teams to take you down. The game itself seems to have been made more challenging, even on the easier difficulty settings.

The graphics are fairly good. They're not amazing like some people seem to think, but they're up to the industry standard for the time.

The gameplay is fast paced and easy to learn. Dual-wielding is fun, and any combination of one handed weapons is allowed. Vehicles are plentiful and oddly satisfying to use, everything from the fast hovering Ghost to the slow, lumbering Scorpion Tank.

Now, of course, we must flip the coin and look at the bad.

In Halo 2, you can have one weapon equipped, and one on your back. With a missile launcher and a shotgun, for example, this is understandable. However, the same rule means that if you've got a pistol at your belt and another in hand, you can't carry anything else. It's an age-old battle between a couple of weapons to be realistic vs. every weapon in a game to be fun. There has to be some middle ground somewhere.

Hype. This is the single worst thing about this game. People everywhere saying how perfect it was. How revolutionary it was.
The fact is, it was neither. I had so many expectations with this game, and my hopes were dashed. If it hadn't been put so high on a pedestal by people, I get the feeling I would have enjoyed this game a lot more. As it was, it constantly failed to live up to my expectations.

Despite that, i'm still gonna give it 4 stars. Why? Because it was still a very good FPS. It wasn't revolutionary, groundbreaking, or perfect, but it was damn fun.

Summary: Not as good as people said

I'm rating this not useful purely because you've put the review in the wrong place. The game you seem to be talking about is Halo 2 for XBOX, the product which you have reviewed is Halo 2 for PC, which isn't even out yet.
As far as I know a lot of changes have been made to the PC version so it will be sporting some big improvements over what you have mentioned in your review.

How can you review a game that's not going to be released until March 2007?

When I first played Halo on the XBOX, I thought it was a good game but a bit repetitive and as you say the games have been hyped far too much.
