When I first heard of this game, I thought nothing of it. It just sounded like an average run of the mill shoot em up. Then my friends started talking about how good it was. So I thought I would check it out. I was greatly surprised.


Story

You play a hitman, hes a bald guy with a black tuxedo. Hes slick, fast, cunning and deadly. You are dropped into realistic backgrounds and scenarios. You go up against some tough cookies such as the chinese mafia and some cruel gangs. The fights take place in china town, posh restaurants and hotels. The scenery and backdrop is amazing, and the levels are truly fantastic. Before each mission, you are granted with money for doing previous missions, depending on how well you do, you will get more money, therefore you will be able to purchase more intense and better weaponry.


Graphics

Every level has its stunning eye for detail. There is not a fault wrong within the graphic details. The characters act like how a real person would react. His walk, drawing of guns, running and jumping are all breathtaking. Strangers turn and look at you while you are walking in the street, people run when you open fire and some even attack you. When you kill someone, you can even drag bodies around and hide then, you can even hide them in the sewers. But be careful, if they are spotted then hell breaks loose. Even the gun models and play models are beautifully crafted. There is not a lot of blood, but its great the way it limits the blood to an un-gore level.

Gameplay

Gameplay is good, its not like other games, you have to plan your attack, and you cannot run in with guns blazing everywhere, as you will just sound the alarm and then you will get caught straight away. One problem, is that it?s a 3rd person shoot em up, and its not from first person, this makes aiming and control slightly difficult at times, as the main character has a slightly la
rge melon head. The 3rd person mode does get some getting used to, it took me a number of days to be able to control him fluidly, and master all the controls I could work. Sometimes it can get frustrating as the camera seems to wander a lot, therefore can make you angry and wish it would stay still as there are a number of bad guys coming to get you. Some of the missions are very difficult indeed, needing you to be cunning, silent, yet deadly. But one problem is that there is no in game save function, causing you to replay missions over and over again. Saying this, a lot of errors is what is needed, to find the right route. If you step one foot in the wrong direction, then it could be hell.

Sound

The sound is amazing. Footsteps can be heard, breathing, gunshots and even far away talking. This all adds to the somewhat eerie atmosphere. Take the opening level in an insane asylum, you can hear patients screaming and guards talking to themselves. Also coughing can be heard. The sound of the guns can be very loud and very nice to hear, although some can be loud and give you away. The sound is one of the best points in the game, and if you have a decent sound card then your in for a treat.


Weapons

Weaponry in hitman is expansive and fun. From car bombs, to grenades, to machine guns and pistols. On the first opening mission, you get a chance to try out all the weapons on offer, and it is much fun. There are about 40 weapons in the game, various types of machine guns, shotguns, pistols, knifes and even strangling wire which you use to choke your enemy to death. The best one has to be the car bomb, which is superb.

Altogether, this is a great game, if you like a lot of weapons, good graphics and sounds then you will love this. A gaming must for shoot em up fans, one thing that lets it down is the controls, which can be a let down, but you end up getting us
ed to them. The 2nd installment is out soon, so I will be buying that and doing a review on it!
