Advantages: Good aesthetic, great interface and engine

Disadvantages: It's no longer modern

Icewind Dale is a good RPG set in the Forgotten Realms world, using the engine provided by developer Black Isle that was so succesful in Baldur's Gate.

Icewind Dale was a clear improvement on Baldur in one respect - the aesthetic of the setting hung together much more credibly, and rather than getting the feeling of wandering across the world in 10 screens it gave more depth to a particularly icy corner of it.

The game is linear in plot, but allows for broad exploration and all sorts of subquests to keep it interesting. The interface is probably one of the best point and click 3rd person RPG efforts, as it allows action to run but paused when necessary to issue commands and take a more tactical dimension.

Perhaps overtaken by the all-encompassing worlds of titles like morrowing (and even GTA for that matter, although more action-biased), it nonetheless is a strong implementation of its genre and an absorbing game to play

Summary: A strong implementation of a classic 3rd person RPG style, with an impressively icy aesthetic
