Star Wars computer games have been going for twenty years in various forms. Starting with the endearingly crap original where you had to blow up the Death Star a gazillion times to the accompaniment of tinny beeping noises and a graphical approximation of 3d so primitive I can?t even remember what it was supposed to be called. And the eternal franchise has currently halted around something called ?Knights of the New Republic? or something. I?ve never been gullible enough to buy a brand new computer game, though, so as always I?m reviewing a game that came out a good eighteen months ago. Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast continues the story of beardy boring man Kyle ... Read the complete review

Jk2 was a big disapointmet to me initially. So much so I stopped playing it for a few weeks. As a standard first person shooter is was very poor. The best first person shooter has to be HalfLife. I always thought (hoped?) that it would bring about more sophistication to the genre. This has not been the case sadly with many games nowadays just offering a straight up blastathon with fancy graphics. The thing about JK2 was, the graphics werent even that good. When I returned to playing it though I gave it a little more time. Crucially the lightsabre started to become more effective and the force powers became much more useful. And these two aspects of the ... Read the complete review

Being more of a strategy game player, I was not overly excited when a brand new copy of Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast came my way. Fortunately for me, a friend had been given the game as a present and his computer (so old it is almost clockwork!) couldn't handle the game system requirements. Outcast is more of a First Person Shooter (FPS) and not being gifted in the hand/eye co-ordination department, it was a few days before I loaded it onto my hard drive. I was completely blown away by this game. It is a FPS but it is so much more than the average game in this area. So let me tell you more. You play Kyle Katarn, a former Jedi Knight that almost ... Notice: This review is identical to the one that I have added to the Playstation section. The reason for this is that game is exclusive to the PC and is not available on Playstation. When placing the review I did not notice this. I have contacted Dooyoo and the issue is pending resolution. When you look at the title of the game anybody with the slightest knowledge of computer games is going to be somewhat weary about Jedi Knight II. That's because it's published by Lucasarts; a name that is infamous for churning out what is considered to be below par software titles. That's why I was really hoping that JKII was going to break the trend. To my ... Read the complete review

When it comes to Star Wars, I love everything about it apart from when someone takes the name and abuses it with a sub standard game. In fact, im yet to see a suitable game to carry the Star Wars name with success yet. With the advent of better technology, I would have expected the games to improve too. Unfortunately, this is not the case. It particularly applies to the latest game for the PC called Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. Background to the game. You are Kyle Katarn who is a mythalogical (did not want to say made up!) Jedi Knight in the days of the Evil Empire and the dark side. Tempted by the Dark side, Kyle is still fighting for the good ... Read the complete review
