Advantages: Custom maps and gamemodes, Fun gameplay
Disadvantages: Could be boring after a while, annoying voices
Killing floor was released the 14th of may 2009, on Steam. It is published by Iceberg Interactive. Killing Floor is one of the best zombie games out there. It is bloody and violent, actually how a zombie game is supposed to be.
Killing floor is based on its multiplayer. You can join all kind of games in the lobby, whether you choose to join the standard given maps or custom created maps by other people. This results in a huge variety of gameplay, since there are tons of custom games out there. When you have joined a game you can select which class or ''perk'' you prefer to be. Each class has different abilities and so you can use different weapons. The different classes are as follow :
> The commando basically shoots while running through the whole map.
- Field Medic
> The title sais it all, you more or less heal injured friends.
> The berseker has e
> The Firebug perk simply makes use of the flamethrower and you basically have to set your enemies on fire.
- Support Specialist
> The support specialist is basically the heavy guy with the large gun. There for this perk has the ability to carry more weapons and has more damage with the shotgun.
> The sharpshooter, as the title suggests, is the sniper of the game. You make use of long - range weapons. Your job is to make headshots, which rewards you bonuses.
You can get experience for these perks while playing games. A game is constructed out of waves, in the standard maps there will be a boss wave. During these waves you earn money with slaughtering zombie's. At the end of the wave there will be a shop opened for about one minute. There you can spend your money on new weapons or armor. When you are geared up and ready, the next round starts. I must say that when you play some maps regulary in combination with the standard game mode, it can become quite boring after a while. Atleast that is what I noticed while playing. But fortunatly there are loads of custom maps which you can play once you are done with the standard maps. Of course there are also various difficulties to make the game more interesting, but sometimes you want to play something totally different.
- Graphics -
Killing Floor makes use of the ''Heavily modified Unreal Engine 2.5''. The graphics are definitely not bad, but aren't spectacular. The textures and models are good enough to keep the game going. I do like the way the zombie's are modelled, they are made with a great style. The sound effects are quite good, although the voices of the characters and the woman from the shop are pretty annoying. Though the text is quite amusing at some point.
I would recommend this game to the zombie survival gamers, probably the first person shooters will like this too. But if you are not in these kind of games, I think you will not like it. All by all it is a good game.
