Advantages: The graphics, the procedurally generated creepy sound, the AI director..

Disadvantages: Sometimes the sheer numbers of zombies may just voerload your processor..

There's not many things more fun than blasting zombies with an automatic shotgun. Unfortunately, it's not everyday the whole world gets turned into grey skinned hordes of death, with a hunger for brains, and body odour to match, but until then, there's Left4Dead, the newest co-op, Valve game.

Did you catch that? Co-op. It means you, and your other friends with a copy, can team up and take down the horde together, and it is perhaps the most fun aspect of the game, and makes single player pale is comparison to it.

The graphics in the game are slick, smooth, and appropriately horror inducing, the four of the games maps including spooky lighting, dark, creepy areas with procedurally generated music to match, and thousands of zombies just waiting to chomp down on some tasty human flesh.
However, on lower end machines, the game does lag a fair bit, and those massive zombie rushes may just slow your game down to unplayability, but tinkering with the settings can somewhat alleviate that.

The sounds, as I said, is procedurally generated, client side. It means that you are more than likely hearing a different sound mix from your friends, tuned just right to your playing style.
But that's not some of the better things Valve came up with. I am, of course, talking about the AI director.
This fantastic chunk of the game is what directs the zombies, and keeps you on your toes. Seem to be taking out zombies too easily? Next time you set off a car alarm, expect a much more balanced fight. Keep dying? Maybe those zombies will just lie in wait for that tiny bit longer. Yes, the game may be fairly linear, but the replayability comes from the fact that just because there was ammo here last round, doesn't mean it'll be here right now, when you need it most.

Summary: A great game, and well worth playing till the next zombie uprising, and you can do it for real.

A nice, if somewhat basic review.

Very dissapointing that you havent even mentioned being able to play as the infected. That's a crucially fun part of playing this game in multiplayer - taking control of zombies!

More discussion of multiplayer options needed.
