Advantages: Added gameplay
Disadvantages: Need quite a powerful PC
Lock on Flaming Cliffs is the add on for the Lock On series, introducing additional Russian aircraft and missions. This game is far more in depth than your average "arcadey" style flight sim, but is a mile away in terms of complexity from Digital Combat Simulators latest release, Black Shark.
The missions in Flaming Cliffs are certainly enjoyable, and a challenge. I rarely completed a mission first time, despite a large amount of time planning and preparing for missions. The flight dynamics are realistic, and air to air combat is certainly thrilling!
The complexity of the game almost makes it as much a strategy game as it is a flight simulator game. You need to plan in advance, equip the most effective weapons against ground and air targets, and analyse all threats that you are going to be up against.
I would certainly recommend investing in a quality joystick for the game, and even rudder peddals if you budget allows, as this makes a huge difference to the gameplay. Likewise, TrackIR (head movement tracking device) also adds that extra level of realism, and can be acquired for under £100.
I would recommend completing all of the training missions before beginning a campaign, no matter how experience you are, you are sure to learn a lot about individual aircraft and advanced combat manouvers.
This is certainly worth a buy for any plane / military hardware fan!
Summary: Worth the money!
