I retrieved Magic: The Gathering (now to be referred to as MTG) from the cupboard. After blowing the dust off the box, I walked to the computer thinking that it felt amazingly heavy for a PC game. I opened the box and removed the contents. My eyes fell onto the manual and I realised why it went straight into the cupboard after purchase. The manual was nothing like we are used to. A gargantuan 200 pages lay in front of me, daring me to attempt to read it. I overcame the desire to put the game back away and sat down to do the thing that will have gamers running for cover… I read the manual! This isn?t anything to do with Paul Daniels; "Magic The Gathering" is based on the popular card game by Wizards of the Coast. It remains very true to its roots too though translating a trading card game to the PC platform is questionable, one huge element of the card game is lost entirely, the ability to trade. It just isn?t as satisfying getting a computerised version of a card as it is holding a piece of overpriced card in your grubby hands. I?m sure almost everyone has at least heard of Pokemon cards, but if you?re unfamiliar with trading card games here goes.
