Advantages: Easily playable and now is very cheap
Disadvantages: The sheer simplicity sometimes makes the game monotonous
Master of Orion 2 is a turn based strategy game from the creators of civ II. Set against the backdrop of futuristic space, players get a sense of awesome power and control before the game even begins. Perhaps it is the feeling of total control which gives the game its high level of enjoyment and playability. The simplicity with which the basics of the game can be picked up will make it appealing to most people of either gender and any age group. Although the game may not be as updated as some more recent ones, nothing can beat it for mere simplicity, yet entertainment value. MOO2 is a natural pregression from the original Master of Orion, and veterans of the original will notice the reappearence of many of the more popular races, such as the Psilons and Bulrathi. Another element of MOO2 based on the original game is the important role that research plays in the game, although there is now as much emphasis on colony maintainance as there is on weapons and engins. One of the central aspects of MOO2 is the space combat. With an more user friendly and graphically pleasing battle interface, it would be an easy mistake to make if it was assumed that waging war is the only way to succeed in this game. In actual fact, a fairly advanced diplomatic section means that war is more of an option than a nessecity. The new 'Antarans' feature is well thought through and can really make a difference to the game as a whole - one well placed attack can cripple you or an opponent with ease. Although the variety of races remains limited, more competent players are given the option of customising their own races, making the options almost limitless. Overall the game is well thought out and picked up easily by new players. It does contain faults yet these are easily missed due to the completeness of the game.
