Advantages: Great Game, Great Price
Disadvantages: Not Many
Players : 1
Price : £10 in virgin megastore, possibly cheaper online.
Background : The original Max Payne was arevelation on PC when it first came out on PC back in 2001.The game managed to neatly mix a film noir storyline with some totally unbelievable special effects, the bullet-time from The Matrix movies is brilliantly used in this game. Also we were introduced to a truly unforgettable main character. In this latest outing the Payne is back and he is gonna Revolutionise the action / shoot 'em up genre once again.
Story : In Max Payne 2, (MP2), Max Payne has fallen in love, however this being Max Payne he's fallen in love with a murder suspect. Therefore the idea of French Chocs and candlelight meals is out of the window. Instead you'll meet lots of unsavory characters, have to explore poorly-lit warehouses and jump around with guns in your hands as you dodge enemy fire. The things us men do for love and women.
Playability : In MP2 the AI has been vastly updated from it's the original. This makes the game more challaging
Addictiveness : The storyline is well written and will keep you playing until you complete it, it will even bring you back after you complete it a good few times, however after a few goes it starts to
become repetative.
Originality : Not much original about this game, however it takes the idea's from the first game and takes them to a new level, which is fine
by me.
Graphics :If you thought the bullet time effects in the first game were good, then the ones in this game will blow your mind. Also all the levels are know photo-realistic, while the characters look alot better too. However due to the darkness of the game you don't always get the chance to see just how much detail has gone into the game.
Sound : Very good and clear, works well and gives and added feeling of realism and urgency.
Difficulty : Not to hard to pick up and play but practice will be needed in order to complete the game.
Value : Good game for a reasonable price, if you like shooting games then MP2 will find a permanent place in your collection.
Longetivity : I have heard many argue that MP2 is far too short (the same was said about its predecessor, and look how that's done). However
i think the length is perfect, for instance you don't want a storyline to go on for so long that you lose interest in it.
Summary: Cracking game now at a bargain price as it's gettin old, if you haven't got it yet get it NOW.
