Max Payne is a PC gaming classic, that borrows a lot from the films of John Woo such as Hard Boiled, and also from the highly influential film The Matrix. It's an incredibly cinematic game that has a notable film noir aesthetic, with a bleak, dark, gritty premise, a focus on crime, a "femme fatale" character, and numerous other conventions. What made the game first so attention-grabbing was undoubtedly the bullet-time feature where, during a gunfight, the player can click the right mouse button and enter into a slow-motion version of the mayhem, and they can also perform a "shoot dodge", where they dive whilst firing. This is an incredibly ... Read the complete review

Max payne is a noir-style third-person shooter in which you play as a detective, Max Payne, who has all but lost his mind after his wife and child were murdered by thugs high on valkyrie, a new drug which is sweeping the country. Playing as Max you must fight your way through numerous urban locales including slums, subways, offices, skyscrapers, parking lots and shipyards as you strive to uncover a conspiracy involving local crime syndicates, the police, and valkyrie in an effort to find out what really happened to your family. The arcade-style gameplay is simple but hugely entertaining- Max can dive from side to side and generally throw himself about whilst ... Read the complete review

A third person film noir action shooter, Max Payne is a true classic that never gets boring. The player controls Max, an NYPD cop who is framed for the murder of his family and best friend, the story follows Max's struggle with mob bosses, satanic cultists and mercenaries from a vast megacorporation, in a move detracting from the standard cut scene. The nail-biting story is panned out with a series of graphic novel comic sequences which are incredibly well-done. Story-driven as the game may appear, it's emphasis is on combat, with its revolutionary physics engine and outstanding rendering, Max Payne is the first game to utilize 'bullet time' mode, in ... When it came out a got it for free, but my computer was to week to support it so I didn't played it. CD was sitting in my game collection draw for ages, when a sow a trailer for the movie with the same title, I was a little curious and I have desire to try it out, and a also suddenly got a lot of free time (that really happens with me) so it seems that this is mend to me to (finally) play it. Game has excellent storyline. You play a DEA agent who become this after his wife and daughter ware killed by ... Read the complete review

Three years ago Max Payne arrived home to find his wife and baby dead. The culprits are junkies high on the new drug Valkyr. The game however does not start from this point, it starts by showing you a clip of Max that you will come across towards the end of the game. You're thrown into the game whilst Max is on an undercover mission, the only person who knows Max is on this mission winds up dead and Max is blamed for his death. Cue the vengeance mission to hunt down those supplying Valkyr. Max Payne includes bullet time without which it would be incredibly difficult to complete the game. It's not done in a tacky way either and fits in very ... Read the complete review
