Advantages: Realism, gameplay and plot

Disadvantages: Pretty short and the price

Max Payne is in my opinion one of the greatest computer games created. It adds a whole new meaning to realism in computer games. It is pretty much your average run around a 3D environment game shooting people. This game is so much more than that though.

The plot involves a man called Max Payne that finds his wife and daughter murdered. He then sets out on a personal vendetta to find the killers. The plot is littered with drug related killings as a new drug called Valkyr has hit the streets of New York. With a lot of good plot twists and an interesting way of telling the story via storyboards and dialogue makes the plot come to life adding depth and reason to the game. It is also punctuated with high-resolution animations that explain detailed parts of the plot in a simple fashion.

The graphics are simply outstanding but after being developed for so long its no surprise. The 3D environments are interactive for example, shooting gas canisters that spout a jet of flame then explode, taps turn on, toilets flush. When you run around in snow your footprints appear exactly where you have been. The graphics of fire sequences are more detailed and life like than I have ever seen before. Basically what I am trying to say is the graphics are simply incredible.

There is one amazing aspect that no other game has. Bullet - Time. This is the ability to slow down the world around you while your can react at normal speed. This proves to be a useful tool for avoiding bullets and shooting the bad guys. Taken from the film the Matrix this adds a whole new dimension to fights scenes and looks really impressive.

If you enjoy playing computer games and like Tomb Raider and others like it where realism is the key aspect then I highly recommend this game because it simply brilliant. Every aspect keeps you entertained although it has two drastic flaws it costs £29.99 and is really really short. I completed the whole game in about 2 weeks. It is however
still worth the purchase as more options are unlocked when you complete it the first time. A great buy give it a go.
